57 matches for record in 2009, overdose?

Post by Seamus O'Grady »

I really went overboard with matches this year and wondered how many matches for record others had shot in 2009? And where? I competed in Washington at Machias, Capitol City, Pe Ell and Tacoma. In Montana in Missoula and at Raton.

Me:

29 Standard matches
28 Hunter

Also 6 smallbore prone matches

No Way!

I had a great year shooting and meet some great people! Saw a couple of national records broke and scored for a cowboy shooter setting the long run senior record on Turkeys. Made my second trip to the Southern Nationals and The U.S. Nationals. Shot in Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, Louisiana and British Columbia. Made Master in Hunter Rifle and picked up my Grand Slam in the same. Bought a Marlin 39A. I didn't make it to as many matches or states as last year but it's still been a great year.

My totals

Standard 27 Matches
Hunter 26 Matches
Cowboy Rimfire 8 Matches
Pistol Cartridge Cowboy 1 Match
Non NRA practice matches at Tacoma 8 Matches
CMP Match 1

Thanks to all the great people in this sport!

Got me beat by 1! I count all total 56 matches entered. That is SB and Airgun only. Shot in 2 states this year MS. and La. at a total of 5 different shooting venues. Hope to make more in 2010, oh and shoot my 1st HP match \:D/

Was a pretty slow year for me, except for getting into highpower. Had a job change, two motorcycle crashes with broken bones, and some wife health issues. I hope to at least double these numbers this year and add at least a couple centerfire cowboy matches.

Highpower Standard: 5 (3 of which were WA state match)
Highpower Hunter: 5 (3 of which were WA state match)
Smallbore Standard: 9
Smallbore Hunter: 9
Pistol Cartridge Cowboy: 4
Smallbore Cowboy: 4

Total: 36

23 local smallbore rifle
3 Hunter pistol
2 air pistol
1st Standard and Hunter Highpower (nationals)
3 Air Rifle
5 different state championships
and last but not least Southern Nationals.

Have to try to make more states this year.

How many actual 40, 60, or 80 shot individual matches were there in there, Mary? I bet a lot and I'm entirely jealous. :)

If we're going with how many actual times we went to matches, my numbers look even worse.

Highpower: 2 monthly matches and 1 state match
Smallbore: 7 monthly matches and the Conard Cup match
Cowboy: 4 monthly matches (we shoot smallbore and then pistol cartridge)

Ugh... I like the total match count in the book better. :?

Two of the states were 60 shots for each rifle, the other three were 80 for each rifle.
Local matches are only 40 shots, same with the pistol matches.
Air rifle was 60 shots.
Just seeing the different ranges and shooting the different conditions if fun, not to mention the Food!!!! All good and varied.

Pennsylvania is the place to be. I shot 88 matches last year. 55 of them were with the three cowboy guns.

I know I shot a hell of alot of matches this year, probably close to Mr. O'Grady. Didnt go to Nats this year but did go to the Iron Man in Missoula(that's one match anybody who shoots both smallbore and highpower needs to go to) bring warm clothes. I shot alot and meet alot of nice people but the one match that will stand out in my memory is the smallbore state match. We shot 100 animals total (both standard and hunter) 60 on sunday and 40 on sunday. We shot standard first and out of 60 animals i got 55 and won the match on saturday. Sunday i shot a 33(not great) and tied the person who I consider to be a mentor and hope :ympray: one day to be as good as he is ^:)^ ; Dennis Martinen. I cannot describe the feelings :ymsick: @-) x_x of being in a shoot-off with someone like that. trying to focus on hitting those turkeys is almost impossible, but it took until the fourth trurkey where i missed and Dennis hit his mark. I could have shoot a 100 matches and this is the only one im going to remember. :D

Is shooting both standard and hunter two matches or one? Do you count all entries in the book? I am not clear on these rules.

I played this game a couple of years back (2007 I think...) and set out to shoot 100 matches in one year (as in 100 different entries into my rifle silhouette book)... I did meet my goal but don't think I have ever fully recovered from the 'burnout'...LOL ...50-60 seem like a good place to be...

I think I had less than 10 in 2009...
