Jackson trigger

Post by Bob259 »

Those with the Jackson trigger in their HP rifles.
  • 1) How do you like it.
    2) Has the trigger weight/pull stayed were it's been set
    3) Would you do it again?

My experience with the Jackson trigger as a two stage trigger has not been good because it does not seem to hold its adjustments properly.
Just before I went to the AZ state Championships I installed the Jackson trigger on my hunting rifle and it held fine through the sighting in and first day of competition but when I decided the following day to use the hunting rifle for both Standard and Hunting rifle class matches I began having trouble with the trigger right away not knowing when it was going to go off, in other words it developed a lot of creep. Half way through the first match I took all the adjustment from the first stage and left it functioning as a single stage trigger and that way I was able to finish the matches.
When I got home I contacted the maker and explained my problems with the trigger and was instructed to send it back. The trigger was returned with no explanation of what they had found so I assumed it was OK and installed it again on my rifle but before the Nationals I took it off again since it was doing the same thing it did in AZ. I still use it but only as a single stage trigger. I know I am not doing anything wrong as far as knowing how to adjust it. THIS PARTICULAR TRIGGER I HAVE DOES NOT STAY WHEN SET AS A TWO STAGE TRIGGER FOR VERY LONG.
Other wise as a single stage trigger I like it fine but that was not the reason I bought it. I have not heard from other unsatisfied owners.

Thanks Tony. Good info and I'm sure it's not something your doing. This was what I was concerned about also as the last thing you want to worry about is your trigger changing.

It will be interesting to see if anyone else is experiencing the same problems.

TRIGGER

Post by Evelio Mc Donald »

So far I have installed and adjusted 12 and sold 5 to individuals that they mounted themselves, so far I have not heard a complain from anybody.
I know 3 of them were fired at the Texas State match, and also at the Nationals without a malfunction. I have to say they are very tricky to adjust, but once they are set, they work as expected. I will keep my fingers cross, and will report back on any failure.
Tony I did have one that was acting funny, some times it would not release the bolt firing pin, even so you could hear it going click. I put some lapping compound on the trigger sear and the firing pin contact, and work it about a hundred times, everything started working fine after that.
Do you have the two pound spring in it ?????

I tried xpilot's trigger and all I can say is, "Damnit, now I need more money!!". Very nice, esp if you shoot two stagers in your other rifles (ie smallbore).
Usually shooting scores right in class, too bad its the class below my classification!

jackson trigger

Post by ANTHONY G »

fellow silhouette shooters ... I had A small problem with my jackson trigger. I called tom @ xtreme shooting my problem was creep on the second stage. He talked me through re setting my trigger and that turning the #12 screw in (just A small amount at A time )would eliminate the creep. Problem solved for me. I love the trigger and hope it stays adjusted creep free so I know exactly when the trigger will break. So far so good...... Anthony G rambuster40

I'm thinking about putting one of these on my HP silhouette rifle. I don't have nearly as good trigger control on the HP as I do on the smallbore rifle with the 2-stage Anschutz trigger. I also would like to be able to adjust trigger position. I currently have a single-stage Jewell with safety. How hard would it be to swap them out? Anything other than sometime simple like possibly opening up more room in the stock? How wide is the trigger blade? Wonder if it would fit through the bottom metal.. Hmm..

Now that they've been out a lot longer, anyone have opinions or experiences that they'd like to share? Is yours holding its settings well? How consistent is it?

While I don't have a Jackson trigger on any of my HP rifles yet, I do like the trigger Evelio installed on my Sako Finnfire. I plan on installing one on my Win. M70 when they become available next year, or on my Tikka 595.

Evelio 'tuned' a stock Remington trigger on my HP build and it breaks crisper and better then the Anshutz one on my 54.18. I can tell when it will break every time and it feels like it's a pound lighter then the Anschutz one, when in fact it's heavier. :?

But I'm also planning on going to the CG Jackson trigger and if and when they make one for the Anschutz (rumored for over two years now) I'll be the first in line, as the 'retuned' 54.18 Anschutz trigger to a 2lb trigger is terrible, but then again I'm fussy about my trigger feel.

LOVE MINE. I got two of them from Tony and had Keith Cairns install the first one on the hunter rifle with the heavier spring and it has not moved from where Keith set it. Got the second one for my standard rifle with the lighter spring and no safty and installed and adjusted it myself. Have shot 5 or 6 matches, and the Iron Man and no problemo's with them at all. I you have the money to spend on one buy it, it will be the best $300 you'll spend on your rifle.

Jason, there is no problem installing one on your gun. The Jewell will come right off and the jackson will bolt right up. the trigger will fit through the bottom metal no problem. If you get one make sure you ask for the heavier spring installed. The trigger blade itself is not as "fat" as your trigger shoe on the jewell but bigger than the trigger itself. It's almost perfect. You can get the trigger in two styles, a normal curved trigger or a straight "target" trigger thats flat on one side and has a slight concave on the other and can be put on either way as well as adjusting the fore and aft and side to side. You wont be disapointed. If you want you can shoot my rifle if you'd like the next highpower match if your still undecided.

Jason;

I bought a Jackson from Keith and installed it myself. Only installation issue was interference between the bolt release and the ADL trigger guard. I filed a relief into the guard. Also had to put spacers between the guard and the stock. I don't consider that a problem. Trigger has stayed tuned but I've only used it in practice and at the Iron Man. Really do like it. Just remember to check your action and scope screws before the match!

Evelio put one in my Remington 260 hunter rifle and it is awesome. The tune Evelio put on the trigger improved my scores 25 percent imediately. Now my high power gun feels exactly like my smallbore anschutz.

Now if evelio could just figure something out for my pistol cartridge game all would be excellent in my world.

Well I finally was able to acquire a Jackson trigger and I had a similar experience to Tony's. Three quarters of the way through the AZ State match my Jackson started firing without any indication of the second stage. I sent it back to Tom Myers at x-treme shooting and he said it was fine, just needed more sear engagement.

I haven't had any problems since, but I haven't shot my HP rifle much since either.

Guys, I have refrain myself for a while from doing a posting on this subject, but really, the Jackson triggers are great, but they are real tricky to tuned just right, but once is set correctly, they will hold the setting pretty much forever, the screws can't back out or move by themself. Everyone that I set up, are still working fine, some are over two years old, and still no problem. If you are doing the mounting yourself, follow the directions step by step, don't take any short cuts, the directions are very explicit, and the triggers will work fine when properly adjusted.
