Randy Ent and the boys ran a great Semi Automatic Military Silhouette Match at Ridgeway on Sunday, June 7, 2009.

Randy, really brought it home in his opening remarks that those of us that were shooting M1 Garands might have had relatives who fought on D-Day, 65 years ago, and used M1 Garands. The really haunting part of his remarks is what if one of the Garands that we were shooting today was one of those used on D-Day.

A great weather day for Ridgeway. The 25 plus shooters kept trying to turn the animals on their backs, but the JB Weld, seemed to hold a lot of them on the rails.

Shooting high power animals at distance, with iron sights and semi auto military rifles is a great experience and those of you that have not tried it should give it a try. A score in the 5 to 12 range is where most of us are at.

Al not to get all technical but you are a day off, D-Day was 65 years ago yesterday the 6th of June. I had a buddy that recently passed away who was there. Most of the rifles that his unit used was M-1 carbines, however I'm sure that there was a ton of Garands there. American Rifleman just did an article on the weapons of D-Day.

Some things seem to last forever and the Garand seems to be one of them. I fooled around with a Match M1 when I was a kid but now I can't see the front sight and the target at the same time so I'll pass on trying to hit anything without using optics. When my dad hit the beach in the second wave he had a Sten gun and LOTS of explosives, maybe I could get a 40/40 if I tried his methods, just blow it all up and get it out of the way, LOL He'd love that.....
