M1 Rifle Silhouette Matches:

If you want to have some real fun with your M1, Randy Ent from the Ridgway Rifle Club will again sponsor (3) three military rifle silhouette matches this spring.

The first match will be on April 5, 2009 and the information for all the matches is listed below. I've attached picture of the range and I can supply a detailed map that shows a short cut to club if your coming from the North on Rt# 219.

Match: Military Rifle Silhouette Matches
M1 / M1A or Bolt Action minimum caliber 6mm (Open Sights Only)

Location: Ridgway Rifle Club High Power Silhouette Range
Grant Rd. Ridgway, PA

Time: 8- 9:30 am sight-In
(2) 40 round matches 9:45 a.m & 1:00 p.m.
Must signup in morning to shoot afternoon match $10 each match

Dates: April 5, 2009 - May 3, 2009 - June 7, 2009 (Sunday)

The distances you will be shooting at are:
Chickens at: 200 Meters
Pigs at: 300 Meters
Turkeys at: 385 Meters
Rams at: 500 Meters

Here's a rough estimation of the clicks from dead bottom on a M1.
Up from '0' Chickens -18, Pigs -22, Turkeys -27, Rams -31

The rule book also states 6MM or larger caliber so if you are concerned that there will be AR's (223)on the line they are not eligible.

The Ridgway Rifle Club is a premier club that host the NRA National Silhouette Championships in both High Power and Small Bore. The HighPower range, where this event will be held, is to say the least, HUGE. If you have never shot at a 500 Meter range before, this will be an experience not soon forgotten.

I saw a guy shoot an M1 at a silhouette match and it did indeed look like a lot of fun. He did well, too. At the same match there were a couple of Marines using H&K semi-autos in .308.

I've also seen a shooter use a Russian Nagant bolt action rifle with open sights.

This the by far the best fun you can have with open sights on a high power range. The club record with a M1 is 18 held by Randy & Jocko. Come on give it a try and maybe break the record.
