Winter fun at CRC

Post by Bob Mc Alice »

Just got back from a few hours of HP practice. Got the coffee on to warm up a bit. Shot 125 rds. of 7-08 rotating thru 3 rifles. Was a little cold, but no wind. Had the place all to myself. I made up a couple of small swingers from some scrap at work yesterday to shoot at. One is a 5x5 inch , the other a 3x6 inch to replicate the approximate size of the dynamite charges at the Dynamite Shoot.

Shooting at a small target at 200 meters sure forces you to concentrate on all of your aquired shooting skills to make a hit. I missed it plenty, but would have been "in the money" at the shoot. It was very satisfying to place a bullet on such a small target. Most of my misses still would have been minute of chicken.

Time to go. Sara says my coffee is done.

Wish we had a range close by that was over 300M....

You and the wife have a great Holiday

PS The company sold our division, so it's not looking like I'll get out to Boulder anytime soon to get over and shoot with you all.

Pat, slow down on the infamous Weewahootee....and Malinois it is paved and still bad. The Moroman ranch section of it to the east where Cocoa gets it water from is much better maintained. The locks are easy to pick cutting through there, but don't get caught carrying firearms, the Mormons make big bucks on their hunting leases and have no tolerance for anyone without their tags.

Naw...I was warm enough JB. Had the thermals on. Going out again on Monday, supposed to be in the 50's. I am off work all next week. Our annual plant paid shutdown 8). Sara and I will be hunting elk on New Years Day. My sister hooked us up with a rancher neighbor who had a few leftover late season cow tags. Or early 2009 season depending how you look at it. The tags are valid thru the end of Feb. We got the use of over 3800 acres of mixed terrain to hunt on. I will post pictures of the kills. At last update, over 500 animals are supposed to be waiting for us. The bad news: knee to thigh deep snow to deal with. Will be taking the snowshoes.

Went out for our holiday snowshoe hike yesterday. We were heading up to Devils Thumb lake at 12,500ft. Only made it to 10,000. Blizzard conditions kind of took the fun out of it.
