How does one appease the shooting gods?

Post by #57 »

well its been three months since I set out to try this , the first monthly was canceled, the second was cut short by my son, and this months is being threatened by rain. does anyone know a sun dance? RO says they wont shoot in the rain. on the sunnier side of things Ive had plenty of time to sort things out. and I think I have enough equip to make a try at cowboy also. I have an older 30 30 with a 24" barrel for long range, a marlin with a 20" barrel in 45 colt for pistol class, and a Remington pump for small bore. Im hopping for a dry sunday and it can pour all it wants on Monday. #57

RO that won't shoot in the rain? Would never survive in Florida, some of the best shooting is done in the rain, tends to have the lighting to allow for easier bullet tracking through the scope.

I hope the weather works out for you, as the addiction is tough to overcome when you haven't shot for a while.

Silhouette is a Zen sport therefore the god is Buddha. Tell your match director that the rain is not real and neither is the rest of reality so therefore the match can go on as scheduled.

I guess your RO must have never shot in Raton, where you are required to shoot at least one match in the rain (per day). It's really not that big of a deal because after 2-3 minutes the rain will stop. Then all hell breaks loose and all sorts of climatological anomolies begin happening, either sequentially, or concurrently. Supposedly the only way to make it stop is to restrain all the animals with duct tape and execute them. Alternatively, the powers that be may select an unfortunate individual animal for each shooter, which is first hung and then repeatedly gut shot. Their only chance for survival is either the complete lack of visibilty, or the fact that your windage setting was off by two (or more) zip codes.

Just tell him you'll never learn to shoot in it if you don't practice in it. That and you're planning on going to Raton this year. Then he'll know you're certifiable, and will probably let you shoot the rest of the day.....maybe even by yourself!

The only bad weather "normaly "incountered here is fog or hot. Ive seen it foggy enough that you couldnt see the ground out of my truck, and at times seen it hit 120deg in the summer. but the good thing about being here is I can be out in a tee shirt about 9 months of the year. and it normaly only rains for about two months. oh and that thing they call wind? we dont get any of that! Now that was two parts Eley, one virgin olive at 100m! Olives are the only thing virgin around here! Im on it. #57

Now BB, that is olive oil. And besides those of us here in Florida that are not virgins are innocent. Even Hambone proclaims his innocence. I mean look it took Nevada to nail OJ, California and Florida couldn't do it.

As for shooting in Raton...what a great description of the weather conditions, rain, wind, calm, sunny, light breeze, overcast and who knows what is next. I will say that I have never shot there for more than two days and not had a major change in conditions during the time frame.

My bad, Mary. It comes from bad company - just don't recall going to Florida to meet virgins, but hey, that was a long time ago. Maybe things have changed?

VIRGINS IN FLORIDA?

A CLASSICAL EXAMPLE OF AN OXYMORON.

Challenge in Raton is the lightning and hail. Wind and rain are just part of the "cost of doing business".

Traitor Cat Gator,
You are true blue Florida cracker....with a statement like that? Boy more than the cat has gotten to you. Closet cat person, unfaithful to your home state, what is next? Must be the old age, pain medication or just too much Tim Tebow.
