marlin v win
Dan222, Nothing against Marlin but you are not going to find a Marlin with a long heavy barrel. Iv'e alone been in this game a year and the advantage of a long preferably octagon barrel you can get in a Winchester is a big advantage.

In my opinion you would be making a large mistake by using a winchester 30-30 the marlin is a better feeling better grouping and less ratly than your standard winchester, unless off course you find a winchester that was manufactured years ago because the quality has deteriorated over the last 20 years, i don't care what anyone else says the ratly old 94 is a second rate firearm. I personally have a marlin with a 24 inch barrel, it's heavy enough and i've outshot every winchester i've come across
348 winchester, teach them chickens a lesson, when a girls gun will not do. Man up with a steel buttplate!!!!!

marlin / win
Again, Nothing disparageing against the Marlin but I should have clarified that I meant one of the older 26 inch Winchester Model 94's.

Winchester made a bunch of Canadian Commemorative rifles (and carbines) that are findable for no price premium. The rifle version has a long, octagon barrel. Mine shoots pretty well off the bench, but not as well as my Marlin. I agree generally with pom's advice, but should note that I don't shoot cowboy silhouette.

the problem is that they all were not designed to shoot that
amount of shot's.
and so they all rattle to bits screws fall out etc. it still comes down to the
nut behind the but. and bob i am biting my tongue as i write this but
that fat nutty pommy bastard can shoot nearly as good as me so keep
your wallet in you pocket and make no bets.

howdy ex pom,
thank you for the kind words and advice, seems like you have a rather large following. when we were years younger, we used to play "king of the hill" it appears you are still on top, with a few trying to knock you off.
just keep up the clean living, and good shooting.....dan

the short little fat toad is a few years out of date. it's 8 lever action titles 7 in a row and the 1st national cowboy silhouette champ. Dan222 you are quite correct there are many who have tried to knock me off the top of the pile but there aint many who have succeeded. And now i'm not SA's President i'll have more time to practice
