Southern Trifecta cancellation
The Southern Nationals and the Sunshine Classic have cancelled our participation in the Dan Healey Southern Trifecta match. After twenty-plus years of a very successful match, Chuck is having some issues with Gateway Rifle & Pistol Club in Jacksonville. After a lengthy discussion with Jerry and Chuck, we have decided to cancel our part in the Southern Trifecta.
We appreciate all the support for the Sunshine Classic, the Southern Nationals and the MidSouth Classic in Benton, Arkansas. Congratulations to all the winners from the run of this match.
Winnsboro Gun Club will continue to host the Southern Nationals according to our usual standards and what you, the shooters, want us to do. I am sure that Chuck will continue to host the Sunshine Classic as usual, but am not sure what type of venue he will have if he gets his issues resolved with his club. I am sure that Benton Gun Club will host an Arkansas match in September, but I do not have any information from them.
Please continue to support not only these three matches, but also other matches in your area. We are a dying breed!
Jerry and I have discussed the future of the Southern Nationals with our club and we will continue to host this event as long as we are having fun and we continue to get some funding from the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism. We are planning the 2009 event now and expect to hold and even better event for everyone this year. The 2010 event will be our Twentieth Anniversary Match and we will have many extra surprises in store. We will be giving scoped Rifles in each class for each rifle as first place!

I find it an outrage that within a year of renaming the Southern Trifecta the Dan Healy Memorial Trifecta that it will be dissolved. Dan was not only a friend but a long time Louisiana shooter with strong roots to this community. He attended all three of these matches until his health would not allow it and was the first AAA vest winner. This vest was displayed at his wake because Linda his wife knew how proud he was of this community and what it represented. I do believe until his last year he attended each and every one of the Southern Nationals.
Linda helped with the stats at all three matches on numerous occasions. This was I think in part because of her love for Dan and the people in this community. She was in tears with joy when she heard what had been done for Dan in Sep 08 of renaming the Southern Trifecta the Dan Healy Memorial Trifecta. She was also overjoyed and honored by the presentation at the Southern Nationals in 09 to honor Dan. All very touching and well deserved actions.
Now to simply dissolve it after a year seems very disrespectful to the memory of Dan Healy and Linda.

I am sorry that anyone is outraged at the cancellation of the Dan Healy Trifecta; however, we honored Dan Healy by naming the match after him in his memory. Culpepper was there at the time and it was and is a great idea and a way to honor a great competitor. Certain circumstances led to the decision to cancel the Dan Healy Southern Trifecta and we will not apologize for any thing that was beyond our control.
No disrespect was meant toward Dan or Linda or the memory of Dan.
