1894c for cowboy silhouette?

Post by dan222 »

hi steel shooters,
does anyone shoot the 1894c in 357 in silhouettes? it has a shorter barrel of 18 1/2", does it give anything up to a 20" which is only 1.5" longer? this will be used for pistol cartridge, thanks......dan

357

Post by ppkny »

Dan,
I'm using a 1894c in 357 and having good results in the PC game. I did change from a receiver mounted rear sight to a behind the cocking lever tang sight. This increased my sighting radius and made a huge difference in shot accuracy.
I also mounted a scope on the rifle to test factory ammo and found that by far Magtech 158gr for turkeys and rams give an excellent group at 100 meters. If you don't hand load you'll have to switch to 38 specials for the chickens and pigs. Same brand Magetch both SJFP.
Last season I did use the same gun for the CLA game with mixed results but had to use a much faster factory ammo, Fiocchi, to knock down the rams and even than I was ringing too many. I am switching to a 30-30 next season for the CLA game.
The 357 is a comfortable gun to shoot although there are a lot on 22 Mag's on the line for the PC game.

I used an 1894 with an 18.5 inch barrel to win the az state pc class in A. Very accurate. I used 357 across the board for very flat shooting trajectories. I worked my way to AA with it.

Interesting on your using the .357 on the Chickens and Pigs. Both PPKNY and I used .357 factory loads starting out as well and they said it was to hard on the Chickens and Pigs, they were OK on the Turkey and Rams though. Since then we switched to the .38's for the Chickens and Pigs and that appears to be OK.
