Just heard from Motl.

He had some roof damage on his shop due to tops breaking off some of his trees -- and there was some attendant water damage. He's out of electricity and water but working on generated power that's enough to run one AC unit and what's needed in the house. Neighborhood nearby has water and his brother's house is there so he's using that for a water source, showers, etc. He describes it as a 'mess' but no one's hurt and it's all fixable.

Engle's in about the same shape and Gutenberg had only minor damage.

Ellis has a place on a lake and the wind came across the water without interruption so that one got hit hard.

He hasn't heard from any others.

He advised that the heat is bad due to the humidity but that's supposed to ease tomorrow. Ground is a sponge and apparently like wading a swamp.

LOTS of debris that will take time to clear.

Very hard to get cell phone communications in or out and land lines are pretty much clobbered. Local authorities are requesting that people use text msgng as much as possible to limit congestion.

We're fine. My family is with my brother. Haven't been home yet. Neighbor says it's not good. No big trees fell on the house, but there is damage from the outside. No power for 2 weeks or more. Gas is scarce. My brother has power, so the wife and kids are happy.

Brad Bishop is ok. No damage to his place, narrowly escaped several tree hits.

Haven't heard from Freeman, but he was leaving town Wed nite. He lives by HWY 288 in Pearland. They were farther west and inland, so their house is probably ok.

Pete Aubin lives near Engle. I dunno about him.

If they open the airport, I might get home tomorrow and get to work on the cleanup.

I heard a rumor that a bunch of people who stayed on the island died. I hope it's not true.

Thanks BB, but I can't see what you can do. I have heard that the Friendswood mayor (town I live in) asked the residents to stay away. KHOU 11 is a local station and they have some video on line. I saw my dad's house on one of them looks like 3-4 feet of water in it. My dad is with the rest of the family. I've been working, since there wasn't much I could do after boarding up and getting the family out of there. I understand that south of I10 will have an extended period without power. Local police, hospitals and grocery stores are getting power first.

The up side is I won't have to write a note to the school to bring Elisabeth to Benton. It is still on, right? I may bring the whole family. I'll have to borrow a couple of extra tents and McLemore will have to ........behave.......We have a room booked in the BW Benton I think.

Tried to call Freeman and Aubin. Still no response.

How far are you from Evelio? Hoping he's alright and the Scotch hasn't ran out yet.

Thanks Bob, we're really ok.

Evelio lives on the north side of town. If you look at a map he lives around Bammel-North Houston and Veterans Memorial, or just a bit north of the horse track. It is 60 miles from my house to his. almost up by IAH.

Brad Bishop lives in Sugarland. south west of the city.

Engle, Gutenburr, and Aubin live on the west side of town around I10 and inside the beltway.

Motl live northeast of town. Farther north than Evelio.

Bobby Pitchford lives northwest of town, in Waller.

WZ lives northwest somewhere.

I was joking about the tents. I've given up on bringing my own. I'll borrow from now on. It's far less work.......

Rob and Mark Ellis. I forgot about them. Mark lives on the west side, a la Engle. Rob lives due east of me by 10 miles. Clear Lake area.

Pat,
Don't worry about the posts numbers they will get there. Bring the whole family then some to Benton, we'll keep them entertained.
Sorry to hear about your fathers house, rising water is not fun, and having spent some time at sea and measuring river flows in my life, tidal surges aren't fun either.

Pink 22 has informed me that she has spent Leif's birthday present buying a new bigger tent, come on down. We will have it in Benton.

All the crew in the pathof Ike are in my prayers.

Should we see if we can help our friends in the storm area?

Maybe coordinate taking supplies and/or manpower. Even if we cannot get into them, maybe we can take them supplies/food/water/etc. and meet them somewhere just out of the excluded area.

I am retired and can help. No truck, but I can help.

Things are not good here. I got to the house. The farther south you go, the worse it gets. I don't know that anyone can do anything. Fuel is in short supply, but getting better. Food is the same way. If people come down here, they'll likely get trapped. Power crews are busting their butts and getting people back on line. Police are very visible. Everything is very orderly. My brother has power AND cable. We're moving in. I suspect tankers and food supplies will increase pretty rapidly. How did Arkansas fare thru this storm? Has anyone heard from the Beaumont Pt. Aurthur group?

If anyone hears from Landry, pls let him know that Tommy Peery is in hospital after suffering a stroke last night.

Elaine says he's likely to be in ICU for a couple of days but that it affected only his speech and (hopefully) will leave no lasting problems. (He's already communicating more clearly -- and he says he's bored with sitting around!)

One more of the community we need to keep in our prayers...

Fort Smith and area got off pretty easy with some high winds and more rain but nothing like we feared. Really cool with clear skies, so very odd weather for September. If it's like this in Benton for the weekend it'll be a good shoot - provided y'all can make it up here!

Little Rock is OK, some lost trees and power. It came through here Saturday night and we slept through it. My dog is really bad about pacing and worrying when a storm comes through and she slept through it also.

I was as the Benton Gun Club yesterday and it is in great shape. I did not even see the small limbs and leaves that are all over my back yard.

The Club is looking very good and we will be ready for the State Match.
