Went to CRC today
To help refresh JB's memory, I took the camera out to CRC today. I also thought to bring along a few rifles , too. Got to get the most out of the 75 mile trip, ya know. The conditions were dead calm for a change. Thought this would be a good time to check my zero's for next weekends State HP match. I rarely have time to do this on match day, as I am up to my eyeballs doing all the paperwork prior to the match.
One thing we are going to have to deal with next week is mosquitos. With all the recent rain out there, some of the crop fields are flooded with standing water. We got a bumper crop of the late season SOB's. I was pestered for hours this morning by them. Better bring the bug spray, the Saturday night sing along could be a rough one.
I also wanted to check out the accuracy of a new Douglas barrel that I installed on my burned out .243 700 Classic last week. I bought a match grade stainless #3 contour 24" ...in what else?...7-08. It only took me a couple of hours after work to get it properly fitted and the stock modified a little. I put on a light grit blast finish similar to a factory job, as it will be used for hunting occasionally.
It took 3 shots to get it on the chicken gong. The next three shots clustered in at the size of a dime. Sweet!!. A quick cleaning, then to pigs. After a rough zero, a quarter size group was shot. Next, the turkey gong got hit with an egg size 3 shot group. Nice. A cleaning, then to the ram gong. Once zeroed, 5 shots came in at about the size of a tennis ball. The loads are the same as my other guns love. 36.0 Varget / 130MK.....39.0 Varget /168MK. This rifle really shoots nice. I would say that the barrel is a good one and installation was a success.

Thanks for the pictures, Bob. How are those Buffalo doing? How did those Elk find themselves on the wall in St. Louis? Do they have those game ranches there, where you lay your rifle on the fence, blast the animal from a distance of 25 yards, just like Uncle Billy's Holstein that dried up?

Only one signed up and paid up . If all that say they will be there show up, we should have maybe 13 -15 shooters. But you know how that can turn out sometimes. I dont get too serious about collecting match fees in advance. I pretty much go by the monthly routine. Show up.....pay up....shoot a match.
