Duckgumbo Bored?
Ok, Duckgumbo you are going to get bored around August 2010 and you will be looking for something to do since there will be not be a Southern Nationals for you to organize after 2010.
I know this has been brought up before and the excuses of why it cannot be successful but we need a active sanctioning body for silhouette that will be organized and promote the sport.
The NRA has lost my paperwork for our monthly matches in Jackson, MS. for the third time and I am getting sick of it. This is not the Silhouette Department but the Tournament reporting Department.
You are the person, Duckgumbo who can both organize and promote with the correct amount of discipline concerning safety. Please consider it.

Bobby, I appreciate our vote of confidence; however, I do not have the inclination or the desire to do what you are suggesting. We WILL have a Southern Nationals after 2010 as long as Jerry and I are having fun doing it. We may not take an active part in the Dan Healy Southern Trifecta but will support it with our match and whatever monetary input we need to participate with. If either Frank or Chuck ever decide to back out of the Trifecta, then we will not participate in any other fashion of the Trifecta.
As far as the NRA is concerned, silhouette and competitive shooting is an extremely small part of their overall agenda. I am a Benefactor or Patron or whatever is the best Lifetime membership that you can attain in the NRA. They primarily exist for the defending of our Second Amendment rights.
Silhouette is an extremely small part of the Competitions Division and they have their own agenda and cowtow to a small group and not what the majority of the shooters want. For example, we will NEVER ask to host any type of NRA National Championship as we have been insulted for the last time last year when they removed the Air Rifle Silhouette Nationals from our club due to "budgetary problems". We offered to buy the trophies to their specs, run the match (which we obviously do better than they can), and send them ALL the money for the match and NOT hold out the mere $3 per rifle that they give to the host club!
Winnsboro Gun Club will continue to run a Southern Nationals as long as the Louisiana Department of Tourism will support us and the competitors continue to come in record numbers. We try to bring to the sport what EVERY competitor fro B Class to Master Class want. We have always been open to suggestions as how to better run the match for the competitors (unlike the NRA). We are having a state-of-the-art sound system installed tomorrow so that everyone will be able to hear range commands and announcements. We have installed new and more stable rifle racks that are lower to allow people at the rear of the firing line to see the match in a better manner and not crowd up on the concrete.
I could go on and on, but in truth the success of our match is the continued support of the competitors and our generous sponsors. Without your participation, we would cease to exist.

By the way, Bobby, if you want to really stir up a hornets nest and see what I and others really think without ANY holding back; then post this on the Behind the Berm segment of this forum and I will NOT hold back anything. I was just trying to be civil on this part of the forum. It is no secret how I feel or members of WGC!

That first reply by duckgumbo and the popularity of the Southern Nationals proved my point about Jerry's and duckgumbo's organizational and promotional skills that could also be used to form a "real" Silhouette organization. Handgun Silhouette(IMHSA) has had a separate sanctioning body for years that seems to be thriving. Not stirring up the Hornet's Nest but just really tired of getting letters from the NRA Tournament Reporting Department about how they are not receiving any of my paperwork. I am not having any trouble with the NRA Silhouette Department at present.
On another note, Jerry and David without any fanfare have done a lot over the years behind the scenes to help and encourage the Junior Silhouette shooters. The kids that shoot Silhouette really well do not receive the media attention that the Olympic (ISSF) kids do and our sport can be just as difficult with the limitations on equipment. I would like to thank David, Jerry and the Winnsboro Gun Club members for their support of the Junior divisions. They are the future of Silhouette.

Bobby,
We do not need the praise as we have stolen every good idea that we have from matches that we used to attend and from listening to what people want. We have gotten some really great response from out sponsors this year and have superb junior awards!
Jerry and I do this because we like to see people having fun and for what it brings to our entire community. We will not quit until we quit having fun. Some people may be put off by our manner, but we only have the best of intentions! Don't take life and shooting too seriously and stop and smell the roses!

Well put Duckkeyyypaapo. Life is too short to let a HOBBY ruin it. It is all about building our sport so others (particularly the youth) can enjoy it and perpetuate it for others.duckgumbo wrote: Jerry and I do this because we like to see people having fun and for what it brings to our entire community.
