Finally, A Perfect Rear Peep

Post by edgehit »

I’ve competed nearly 20 years and my rear sight preference is a receiver peep sight and any type of front post. My eyesight is pretty good but I need a touch of positive diopter to sharpen the front sight. I’ve been shooting with Knobloch lense frames and while excellent for shooting glasses, they get dirty, require adjusting, and after awhile they’re uncomfortable to shoot.

Archery Specialists offers a most excellent alternative, the Iron-i rear peep system. The peep housing is just under 1/2” diameter and threads directly to my Williams FP. I ordered their weakest power vision correction lense and snapped it onto the screw-in peep. Most shooters will not experience conflict between the peep and hammer.

WOW! Excellent clarity. My front sight is sharp. The target is well defined. Contrast is superb.

This is a “next-level” shooting experience for me. Good-bye inspector gadget. Hello to a glare free, high contrast sight picture.

Total cost per setup is just under $100 per unit. You need the peep housing, an optical “Verifyer” lense, and a peep sized to your preference.

Downside? I wish they marketed the Verifyer lense by diopter and not the goofy #4/silver item code. At least they share the range of weakest to highest correction. If folks share what #number/color code they settled upon and correlate to their current lense power we can get a feel for comparable diopters.

My shooting glasses are +0.75 diopter and #4/silver is a touch stronger however, I’m digging it. Must have been time for an upgrade.

Thanks for the tip. I ordered the #4 also and it’s a tad strong. If I order another it will be a 3 or perhaps 2. We will see what happens but I called Specialty Archery and talked a good while with a fellow name Steve Green about providing a housing threaded 10-40 for sights such as MVA. He asked for information supporting my claim that a small but probable market exists. I provided a lot of information and as of today’s conversation he felt it was likely they will make at least one run to see how they sale. I’ll post again if I notice that has happened.
