Georgia State Championship Personal Report

Post by papabear »

My wife and I shot the Georgia State Championships this weekend.
The weather was great, mid 50's in the am.
As always it was a great and well run competition. We missed the dinners due to other commitments but I heard that the food was great. Although I was told that one of them yankees did not even taste the grits.....
John, Wayne, Barbara and the rest of the Coastal Georgia gun club did an outstanding job worthy of the accolades that they deserve.( I know, I know, too many big words already....)

This is not the complete results, this just brags about my wife's( Michelle-mamabear) accomplishment.

Standard rifle she was awarded
State Champion AA
State Lady Champion

Hunter Rifle she was awarded
Third Open
State Lady Champion

She shot her first Master score of 33 for hunter and 60 aggregate which was good for third behind Troy and Kevin Lawton.

She also earned three(3) ten animal pins. Twice on the Pigs for standard and once on the Chicken for Hunter. Nobody could convince her to do the long run, we all tried. Maybe if ducky, kitty and the dawg tried.......

It was a looooong drive home.

I'm confused...
Wait...
Maybe I am not.

Toby,

Glad to hear Michelle shot her first master score, along with all her other awards. I remember my first and my last, the others seem to have faded.

It's now time for you to step up and get'r done.

Please tell Michelle I'm very proud of her, as well as you. You both have made this sport more enjoyable and fun.
We have but one life to live, live it like you stole it, live it right up to the hilt.

Way to go, Mama Bear....Looks like it's going to be a loooong winter for Papa Bear....

Don't worry Papa Bear, we will convince her to go on the long run...If she won't do it we'll just hide her gun.....

Congratulations, Mama Bear. Look forward to seeing you all in Jacksonville, or earlier if you are going to the Conard Cup.

We are not sure whose fault it is but WE( her and I) left HER rifle behind at the gunrange after saturday's match. I placed MY rifle in MY guncase but SHE DID NOT place HER rifle in HER guncase after SHE shot the match.:(

Somehow I can feel it in the air that it was my fault for not putting HER rifle in HER rifle case.

Papabear,
We all know who's fault it was that her rifle did not make it to the case and in the car. Now if it makes you feel any better you are at least the thrid person in as many years that i am aware of leaving a rifle on the range on Saturday. The first one was kevin Lawton.
So grin and Bear it for the winter.

Great shooting..

Post by Dee »

Are you now refered to as the husband of the State Champion?

One of the guys from our local Airgun Field Target/ Silhouette club got outshot at this years FT Nationals by his wife and he is still trying to live it down. Then she goes and wins the womens World FT Championship. Those must have been some long rides home.

She is a really good shot and I think women have the edge on the men in patience and fine touch motor skills. If women shot in equal number to men we might all find ourselves fishing more :)

Congrats on her great shooting weekend, I hope the rifle turns up if it hasn't already. But you do realize that once your wife starts to win and you don't your all of a sudden just the pit crew for her. Thus it HAD to be your fault her rifle was not put up. Damn hired help I tell ya!

Can someone explain what the long run attempts mean or how they are done. I think I have an idea but I have never seen it fully explained. Where can you see all the current records, any online places with the info?

Dee,
Long run records are an set by running the most number of any animal in a match, you can attempt to break the records if you get ten in a row or 15 if in a row if in a 60 shot match. The records are usually posted at each registered tournament, ( not approved but registered, read the differences in the first few pages of the rule book) and have to be run on the same day as the 10 in a row is shot. Some have been set with shooters using headlights from cars to light the targets, as it is usually done after the match is over, as some of them are up in the 160+ (pigs).

I think the NRA has them online as well.

Mary, please check rule 17.5.1 Long Run National Records - National Records for Long Runs (consecutive hits on one type of animal) may be set at any level of NRA Sanctioned Silhouette Competition (Approved or Registered Tournaments).

Tony,
Thanks for catching that one, mainly I was trying to get somebody to look up the differences between registered and approved tournaments, as there are way too many questions about the differences and they are clearly explained in the first few pages of the rule book. Yes the long run records can be set in approved matches, but the other records can not.
Either way the 160+ pigs (open record) is a lot of shooting, expecially after shooting a full 40 shot match.

I taught her that.....Loser always packs and carries the gear...Unless, as in my case, you take your own talented junior shooter along to carry your stuff.
In absence of aforementioned junior shooter you're stuck......Rule 4.1, Kitty's book of made up rules and excuses and stuff......

Kitty, the problem with taking somebody with you that will help carry all the stuff is that sometimes not everything makes it back to the car. This year I took an extra HP hunting rifle and 500 rounds of ammo just in case it was needed.

After the SB matches the next day we went to the HP range to sight in our rifles, we used the benches on the right side of range and put our belongings on the benches under the cover, when we were done we packed most everything but left a bag with 500 rounds of ammo and since we did not use the extra rifle and spent the three days of the competition on the opposite side of the range we never saw the ammo or missed it.

To make the story short Agustin and I were some of the last people to leave the range the last day of HP competition and the Lopez family told me I had left a bunch of ammo on one of the benches. That ammo had been there for five days and I was grateful I did not leave it behind for good.

One other time I almost left my .22 standard rifle on the rack and by sheer chance I happened to drive up and around the firing line on my way out of the range and there it was all by itself. In those two instances I was lucky to get my stuff back but a couple other times I was not as fortunate. I still have the top half of a nice bench rest (never found the base) and have left and lost at least one nice chair.

You have to understand that I am not know for traveling light when I drive to matches so it is not hard for me to forget something specially if I have somebody with me helping me carry my things.

Tony,

Goes to show that Silhouette Shooters are a pretty honest bunch, at least in not picking up equipment that doesn't belong to them. Thing to do is blame Augustin for not packing everything....No matter how old he gets, he'll still be your junior.

By the way, thanks for the tip about exercise having such a direct immediate impact on blood sugar levels. Mine has popped up pretty good a couple of times this past month, and in both cases a brisk (for me) walk for about 20 minutes resulted in it coming back under control.

But this is the second year a Pacific Islander has missed the fish...one of these days you'll talk the whole family into staying for dinner.
