Two actions, one stock

Post by acorneau »

Are there any action companies that are making R700 clone actions that have both centerfire (short action) AND a rimfire single-shot actions?

The only company I've found so far that sells both kinds of actions is Zermatt, but the one rimfire action they sell isn't available as a single-shot receiver and no after-market plug/ramp available (like the Davidson loading ramp for the 700).

It seems plenty of companies make either centerfire OR rimfire actions, but not both.

I have a vision/fantasy of building a new set of silhouette rifles where I have two similar barreled actions/trigger/scopes and one stock that they both fit into. Traveling with one full rifle and one barrel action would be a lot easier than two full rifles.

Thanks.

Unfortunately only repeater r700 clone rimfire actions are available and only because of the interest in the PRS game. I would avoid buying from ptg at all cost, read their reviews you have been warned.

If you wanted to use a repeater 700 clone the plenty available mas45 magazines fit and feed in the bergara and ate low profile. I have tested it in a jig holding the magazine in place, never got around to making the actual magazine holder adapter, best done if you have your own mill to play with.

If I'm making a custom rifle I want it to be a single-shot from the get-go. In fact, I removed the magazine well on my Anschutz 1710 and milled a custom block/feed ramp in order to make it a single shot.

I'm just really surprised that there is practically no cross-over between rimfire and centerfire actions.

I'm doing similar mental gymnastics and thinking about a Curtis action which has a rimfire conversion. Swap just the bolt and barrel.
Apparently they are controlled feed which makes single loading problematic but in my mind a coned breach should help.

Hey Allen! If they're both 700 footprints, then theoretically they should fit into the same stock. So does it matter if they're made by the same company? I would suggest getting a Vudoo V22S and then whatever centerfire single-shot you want. I would suggest bedding it to the centerfire rifle since its recoil lug will most likely go deeper into the stock. Before Steve finished my stock for my first Vudoo, I was shooting it in my Defiance centerfire stock without issue. Fit like a glove. Hope that helps!
