That would put over 50 million on the bread line. I do like the idea.

Jerry, That would only be 10 million, remember there were multiple registrations by the same person :-)

That is the best idea of all. Anyone ignorant enough to vote for a Socialist Muslim is not smart enough to work for me!

They should not bail out the Big 3 Automakers as they will just give the money to the AFL?CIO bastards! Let them go into Chapter 11 and give the Unions what they have been giving them! Also fire all the upper management assholes that got them into this mess.[/i]

How about letting bankrupt companies go bankrupt. Sell them or their assets to whom ever will buy them. This would reduce the cost of "saving" hte poorly run companies and avoid problem of the government borrowing the money and threatening taxpayers with prison for saving bankers.

Then shareholders can sue CEOs for the lousy job they did getting their companies overleveraged when they should have been looking ahead at the ending business cycle. I saw it coming why didn't they?

Oops, I forgot, lots of politicians have, have had or will have board of director membershipes and they aren't going to to put themselves at risk.
Nope, I guess it's we'll just have to foot the bill to save jobs; CEO, directors and politicians jobs.

Dave, you should know by now that the bean counters only look as far as the next quarter.

The auto companies gave future bennies to labor 30 years ago to make them look good then. Their agreement have come home to bite them in the ass.

I worked for a company that was managed the same way and I ended up loosing most all the retirement I had with them. That being said, the UAW along with the big 3 should have to live with the decisions they made 30 years ago too. If they all have to go back to work for their nexst meal, so be it.

Even Toyota is nervous about their cash position right now so it isn't limited to US auto companies. This is going to hurt, a lot, and the best they - and we - can do is engineer as soft a landing as possible.

Congress actually did something right (after letting Treasury run amok) by actually telling them to come back with a plan. Executives and labor will have give up a lot they want to keep - tough.

I say let the oil companies bail out the U.S. auto industry. They have made a shitload of money from from "captive consumers" and need the vehicles to use their over priced products.

The best they - and we - can do is engineer as soft a landing as possible?

Is that the best they can do, steal MY money under threat of imprisonment in order to save the same people who profited by artificially running up the price of housing so much that I remained a rent slave for 15 years? Save the same CEOs who lie about the financial condition of their publically held companies? Save the same unions who could care less about their employees as long as they could maximize dues? Save the same politicians who kept me as poor as my welfare neighbors when I worked two jobs and went to school nights?

If the bail out is such a good idea then make it voluntary. Let the financially sound banks loan the troubled banks and desperate companies the money. Anyone who thinks that's a great idea can by stock in the lending banks.

Letting them fail would be justice, but it would be a Pyrrhic victory at best.

I've spent a lot of time trying to determine when situational practicality and justice need to diverge.

But compromising justice and lessons lost for the sake of blunting reality seems to be a never-ending pursuit once the apple has been bitten.
