As for the repblicans being out of touch with the people, that is true but so are the deomcrats, in a backwards sense, believing that a way to fix the economy is to give away (print) more money.
I deal with them every day at work, and they truly believe that what they are doing is right.

Let's just say some unfortunate things happened during the Bush Administration and leave it at that. This left the Republican party with a difficult sales job, and seems to have fractured it along ideological lines: Some of those beliefs have a wide appeal, some don't, and the party is wandering in the wilderness. From the looks of things the Democrats are headed that way, just faster because they've never had much line discipline and the reality of accountability will pull their mainstream back toward center. Extremists are never willing to compromise, so trust me - dominance by the Democratic party won't last. It's just a question of who will fill the vacuum.
Washington DC is one big reality distortion field, so these folks are sometimes genuinely surprised when folks disagree with them, and naturally gravitate towards groups with similar beliefs, no matter how few of the voters those actually represent.

Who would disagree that the constitution applies now and so long as there is a United States, but know that, according to Justice Department memos from the Bush era, the 4th Amendment (protection from unreasonable search and seizure) did not apply and the President of the United States had the authority to ignore the constitution! Folks, Nobody has that right! Not Bush, not Obama, NOBODY!
We must protect the constitution, and not just the 2nd Amendment! Anyone that violates the constitution is guilty of treason, and we must never tolerate violation of one part by someone because they protect another that is particularly dear to us. It is all vital to us - no one part is more important than another.
Remember that every amendment was written to address some specific abuse and every tyrant claims some special authority that simply does not exist, and we must never tolerate tyrants.

Smells like another tax and layer of bureaucracy to me. Hopefully it's DOA. Enforce existing laws first, and if you must rewrite them, cooperate with legitimate gun owners instead of acting adversarial.deadeyeky wrote:i just read HR 45, scary scary stuff

BB you're thinking that people in Washington actually have a mind and can use common sense..... I think not and that is what scares me as it's the more 'feel good' laws they can pass the better.
I'd be willing to bet if you check anywhere in the US you will find that the existing firearms laws and mandatory jail time offenses that go along with them are the first to be plea bargined away by the DA's so they just get them to plead guilty to a lesser crime, less jail time and not have to go to trial.
(PS: The only ones hurt by these 'feel good' laws are the average law abiding citizen who the DA's hang as the real criminals know the system)
