Pretty sad, Bob. SS is theoretically funded for another 50 years if the Federal Government pays back the money borrowed to offset the deficit.

Medical care is the scarier problem. Story goes that Congressional Republicans and the AMA would have agreed to a universal health care plan on the Medicare model in the early '90's, but Hillary didn't ask their advice and that completely sank the project. That's a big part of the money troubles plaguing GM, Ford, Chrysler and the rest of industrial America since medical benefits were negotiated based on the expectation that some form of universal health care would be in place, so now it's killing their ability to compete.

Add an acute doctor shortage due to get worse. Maybe ten years ago there were 7.4 applicants for each med school slot and today there are 1.7 so to quote a doctor friend, if you ever wanted to be a doctor, now's the time. His point to the room (2 ministers, 2 doctors, 4 teachers) was that of these three worst professions, being a doctor sucked least because they made more. Funny guy...

Not much to argue with there Bob. Spouse Unit's 84 year old mother lives with us, sometimes grudgingly (something about odd noises from the garage late at night), but we all know that, even after working all her life, alone she'd live in absolute poverty.

We're facing some very tough choices.

Dang, and folks thought my views on Iran were extreme! Simple: Quietly inform them they may pursue nuclear power but only light water technology that can't be weaponized. Any other nuclear facility will be scourged. Any facility supplying personnel or material for attacks on the U.S. or our allies will be scourged. And I'm the liberal here...

Yes, we need to pursue our global interests and get our own house in order, with just about equal priority, before trying to buy solutions for the rest of the world. Something about "Charity begins at home" comes to mind.

As I write this CNN is reporting the collapse of Lehman Bros., a 158 year old, blue chip firm. I won't politicize the problem because that would be simplistic. All involved can share "credit" for this situation and we all get to pay.

BB, it was GREED that caused it. These guys all jumped in on the housing boom and forgot all the rules. Now they want to be bailed out while there exec's all got millions and millions in bonus's over the last few years.

Yeah, you did come up from two and will be using unfamiliar equipment....But I think BB is going to the range tonight to sight in an unfamiliar gun that he's going to shoot at Benton instead of Rainy Day Annie (boy is that gun going to be pissed)...so 4 it is then.....Guess I was up for grabs as an "agent" and BB grabbed first....You should have been quicker....These negotiations have been easy, since it's not my money that the loser will be spending on steak..
