It gets complicated. A politician facing unemployment might want to ensure continued employment.

BB, maybe they should be like the rest of us, dealing with threats of unemployment, the forced social security, medicare etc as well as buying insurance, if they are forced to live it and not under the politican umbrella a lot would change.

term limits would be a good start. I think senators hold office for 6 years, if you can't get something done in 18 years (3 trips to the big seat)its time to move on! In the olden days thats what they did and its time to bring that one back.

Make 'em eat what they cook and mandatory retirement would solve a lot.

I guess the real question is...when did it change and how could we have allowed this kind of stuff to happen?

Easy.. 'we the people' have little or no say as they set their own raises and perks. Pretty good deal I'd say. Lets change it so any pay raise or perk they want MUST be voted on in a National election by the people and not themselves.

how about we give ourselves a raise with many perks and vote all the bums out!

Dad was a politician and said there two kinds of people that voted for him: Them that wanted him in that office, and them that just wanted him out of town. He also said the good news was that at least we didn't get all the government we were paying for.
