Finally had a nice day in PA and decided to go to the range to sight in my new Leopold FX-3 25x40 scope. My scope sits way forward on my rifle and the bottom of the scope tube is 1.960 inches above the top of the receiver. As you can see, my scope sits up pretty high but that's where everything lines up with my eye.To my surprise, I ran out of elevation at 40 meters. My question: What kind of material does one use to shim up the rear ring and how thick does the shim have to be? Also, I'm I correct in assuming that the rear ring gets the shim?

First I would try swapping the rings front to rear. ( they aren't that precise). If no change try 2 thicknesses of an aluminum can on rear ring, adjust from there. If you are that far off, burris signature rings with the inserts will work.

3 thickness of beer can under the back. one shim at 1" long, one at 3/4" and one at 1/2". A small dab of rubber cement holds them in place while you tighten the screws.

Jerry, I have a few questions for you: First, which ring gets shimmed, the front or back ring? Second,are the three shims to be laid on top of one another in the bottom of the ring? Third, are you really using beer can or soda can aluminum for the shims or is there some other type of material you are using? Fourth, should the shims be as wide as the ring? Fifth, would Burris shims work in BKL rings? THanks

  Fifth, would Burris shims work in BKL rings? No, for the Burris adjustable's you need the appropriate Burris rings

There are plenty of people that shoot by you that will surely help you out if you've never done this before.

Jaja The Burris inserts would need the Signature rings from Burris. I sent them a request long ago to produce the Signature ring set up in AL but never rec'd a reply. That weight of the steel Signature ring set up is my only complaint with them. Best wishes

If it is an Anschutz you can always buy a 20 moa scope rail and use a set of Weaver base rings like these.

I just ordered the Burris Signature rings as well as the .005, .010, and .020 inserts. Since my gun is approximately 9 oz. light (9.53 lbs.) I decided to spend the extra money to make sure I didn't damage the Leupold FX-3 25x40mm I recently purchased. The question now is what to do with the BKL high rings that came off my Anne. I sure hope these rings work. I was really happy to find that the Burris made some Signature rings that would fit onto the BKL 3/8th inch riser blocks.

While I was able to order the Burris rings I'm having a heck of a time finding the Pos-Align offset inserts. It seems that every store that I tried to order from has the item backordered. Does anyone know a store that has the Burris 1 inch Signature Zee Ring Pos-Align offset Inserts installation kit with the .005, .010, and .020 inserts. The Burris item # is 626019. Any help you guys can give me would be deeply appreciated. Getting frustrated in PA.
