The entry forms and programs for the Benton Gun Club 2015 Mid-South Regional HP and SB matches are attached. The dates are April 17-19, with the 17th being a check in and practice day starting at noon, or earlier if we get everything ready sooner. The HP match is Saturday April 18th and will be two 40 shot matches. The SB match is the following day and will be two 60 shot matches. I can promise you good food and fellowship, and probably good weather. Hope to see you in April.

This is a problem. We were going to send a crew to both of these matches but we cant be two places at once. This is why we need a calendar on SteelChickens with championship-level matches listed so match directors can work together to avoid conflicts within a region.

Last year the Mid-South Regional, Texas Smallbore State Championship, Georgia Smallbore State Championship and Arizona HP state championship were all on the same weekend.

Here in Louisiana it was about the same distance to Ft. Worth, Benton, and Camp Sumpter, but we could only choose one - and we don't miss the Mid-South regional.

That's good (and we don't miss the Mid-South regional) they other list isn't good. I agree, a lot of good matches out there, but you can't be in two places at once. It's like the tree of liberty needs to be refreshed, how do you get it started? Who's the computer guru that's going to put the program in place?

As Mark said, it's hard to be in two places at the same time. On a positive note, it looks like there are a good number of great matches this spring, and one should not have any trouble finding a match. I miss out on matches every year because of other shooting conflicts. Dustin is correct in that an up to date match calendar would be great to have at our disposal, but even with that, we will always have conflicts and choices to make. Again, having choices is a good thing. There will always be local range conflicts/restrictions, other matches, really big gun shows (Tulsa for us this year), and of course finding out what your plans really are after consulting with your wife!

I hope to see all of you at the Mid-South Regional this year.

I will be at the Air Rifle Nationals in March, and will have some Mid-South Regional entry forms with me if you want to save that postage.

Also, I will try and have a supply of my 17A sight inserts with me for anyone wanting to purchase them. If you know you want some, please let me know and I will be sure to set them aside for you.

Hello Greg, I have found that I can be off for the Regional. What is the possibility of shooting my CMP .308 in one of the matches because I don't have a good hunter class high power at this time. I have been developing a load for the CMP gun. Are there any slots left? I would like to continue to shoot this year and hope to get near Raton this summer or the next.
Iam going to print a form and send it in this week.

There are still spots available. With regard to the rifle, as long as it meets the following requirements it should be acceptable:

3.1.1 High Power Hunting Silhouette Rifle - A hunting style rifle having a maximum weight of 9 pounds, including sights and if applicable, an empty magazine or clip. With the exception of single shot rifles, all other types must be repeating rifles, which shall be fired by loading all cartridges from the magazine or clip into the chamber. The intent of this rule is to describe a common hunting rifle.
(a) Caliber: 6mm or larger, provided that no belted cartridges or Magnums are allowed.
(b) Sights: any telescopic or metallic sight may be used. Scopes may not be more than 1.5 inches above the rifle, as measured from the top of the receiver to the underside of the scope tube, nor may the scope be offset from the centerline of the bore. Exception: for rifles that eject the empty cartridge case straight up and that normally use an offset scope, the scope may be offset. Any sighting device programmed to activate the firing mechanism is prohibited.
(c) Stock: A hunting style stock; thumbhole-type stocks are not permitted. Attachments, either removable or permanent, are not permitted. Swivels and slings are permitted, but slings may not be used for arm support in shooting. Dimensions may not exceed those described in 3.1(d).
(d) Trigger: Trigger pull shall not be less than 2 pounds. In the event of an accidental discharge, range officers shall require adjustment of the trigger or replacement of the rifle. Rifles must be equipped with a functional safety.
All safety features, including any manual safety, must be functional.
(e) Barrel: A hunting style contoured barrel that tapers from chamber to muzzle. Bull barrels are not permitted. A factory tuner that does not act as a muzzle brake or compensator is permitted. Maximum barrel length is 26 inches, including tuner. (See Rule 3.16.1).
(f) Magazines: Magazines may not be loaded with more than 5 rounds. During the match, all cartridges must be loaded into the chamber from the magazine.
Exception: During a Shoot Off, single cartridge loading may be used at direction of the Range Officer.

I just wanted to thank all of the shooters that were able to make the match this year. Without your support we would not be able to host this match. We dodged the bullet on the weather this year and only had a brief shower Sunday morning. There was a little wind both days, but it wasn't too bad. Hope everyone had a safe trip home, and again, thanks for your support. (I will post pics of the scoreboard soon)

The facility, food and competition were all top notch. Also, I think we were the only spot in the south that didn't get hammered with rain. See you again next year!

I'll second that...and to all that let weather forecasts keep you away... conditions were as good as you could hope for. Reminders of last years TX State HP....STORMS forecasted! and it was the only match I can remember at Coolidge with little to no winds...
