EDIT: Please see post #4 for an update. It is with a very heavy heart that I write this. Many of you know Bo, and that he has been having serious health issues these last few years. He is currently in Cardiac ICU in San Antonio, and is not expected to make it more than a few weeks (very possibly not thru the weekend). I'm not going to post a lot of details out of respect for his privacy, but wanted those of you who are his friends to have a chance to say goodbye.

The cards I had people sign at last year's TX Air Rifle Championships and this year's Highpower Nationals meant a very great deal to him. I have been talking with several of his friends, and was thinking about posting an address that people could send cards to, but with holiday mail being what it is I fear they would not get to him in time. So I came up with another idea. I have created a special email address for people to send any type of message they may want him to have. I will print them all out and take them to him.

The email is [removed, see post #4] Please spread the word and send your message as quickly as possible. The current plan is for me to go see him tomorrow afternoon, and I would like to print them at that time. Anyone who is in the area and would like to go see him can also email for more details.

Tim Lee called a little while ago and let me know that it looks like Bo will probably not make it until I get there tomorrow. But I was able to call and talk to him for a few minutes, and I read to him all the emails I have received so far. It was difficult for him to talk, but I know they meant a lot to him.

He says he is very tired, and ready to go. I don't want to say too much right now, but I do know there are plans to allow as many of his friends as possible to pay their respects. I will keep you posted.

It is with sadness that I share the passing of a good friend that positively touched many folks' lives. After a long and courageous battle with recent health issues, Wayne Bowen Weems peacefully passed away today at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. A memorial service will be planned after the holidays and I will share more with everyone, as I hear plans from his family.

Rest in Peace my dear friend, and Godspeed.

I bid farewell to a friend, coach, mentor, a man who was like a 2nd father to me these past few years. He was one of the best spotters a girl could ever hope to have. It was with him at my side that I got my first 10-in-a-row, and as a AA class shooter beat many of my idols (Bill Motl, Jerry Tureau, Mallory Nicols, and several more) to take 2nd overall in Arkansas last year.

I will miss you Bo, but am thankful to have known you, and glad you are finally at peace.

I enjoyed many a good time with Bo, whether at the range or visiting and swapping stories. He was a fine man and loyal friend. He lived a good life. His company, wit and humor will be greatly missed.

Folks -

Bo's wife Jean is asking that in lieu of flowers or the like, that donations be made to the TSRA Youth Program in memory of him instead.

There is now a link to donate to the TSRA Youth Program in memory of Bowen. It can be accessed through any of the "Click here to Donate" links on the TSRA website. Once you click on that link, the top most selection specifically says: "Donation to Youth Program in Memory of Wayne Bowen Weems". When the user clicks on that it'll allow anyone to donate via a secured connection whatever amount they desire.

You can also access the initial "Click here to donate" page directly at the following link:
http://www.tsra.com/donate/

As he was often seen coaching and working with youth at pistol and rifle competitions, I believe this will help extend Bo's legacy and he would be proud to have donations made to this program in his memory.

Thanks much,
