I'm building a new rifle. I have everything I need but a action. I have a brown precision silhouette stock, leupold fx3 25x, Jewell trigger, plenty of take off barrels from my ara guns. I need advice on a action. I'm looking at a stiller Meyers action to use because of the top loading port but it is a 40x clone size. I was wondering if going to a turbo clone would be better because it would save weight? Also I have a older small Harrell tuner I would like to add to the gun and I'm worried about weight.

I am not trying to be a smart ass but...........If you are building a silhouette rifle, a Remington 700 action is very good. You can buy just about anything you want right off the shelf to bolt right on to it and they are good for 1/2 minuete. If you are building a bench gun you need to ask at bench rest central.

If you are messing with a SB, just buy an Annie and be done with it.

It's for a small bore silhouette rifle. I have all the pieces in hand besides a action. So why would I buy a Annie when for less money I can build a nicer more accurate rifle. Annie's are nice factory rifles but they don't hold a candle to a full custom. I understand this game is about how good your hold is and not the rifle. But there is no such thing as a too accurate rifle. Just like in any game it's the driver not the rifle.

Innocent used a stiller actioned rifle that I believe she borrowed from jneihouse at the Conard cup this year and I was very impressed with what I saw. You'll have to use it as a standard only gun if you go the tuner route as they're not kosher on hunter rifles but if I was in your same position I'd really be looking at the stiller closely.

Agree... Turbo and the Stiller's are very nice. At the time I built one I couldn't get either, so I got a Hall.

It probably doesn't matter what action it is, all the ones you mentioned are great. The most important aspect to me would be is the action a repeater, you don't want to fumbling around single loading in this game, there isn't nearly as much time to get the shots off as there is in ARA or BR-50. If your young and have small fingers single shots are doable, if not better get a repeater.

If single loading isn't an issue, I think the Meyers would be a fine option as would just about any custom action out there. I probably wouldn't go Turbo just from the loading ease, but it's really just a preference.

Another thing about your build you should consider is the scope choice, 25X is fine for people that are experienced at offhand shooting games and have developed a steady hold. I would recommend a variable, 6.5x20, 6x18 or 8.5x25 in that order when starting out. Being able to turn the power down when it's windy, when shooting chickens{so you can see which bay your in} or when your having a bad hold day is invaluable to me. I shoot chickens and pigs on about 16x most of the time and the farther targets at about 20x or a little over if the conditions are great.
If you have a killer hold and are 30 years old that 25x would be just the ticket.

I have a soild hold I have shoot muzzleloaders offhand competitively for over 10 years including schutszen rifles. But I understand your advice and for someone new to shooting I believe a adjustable scope is best.

Well I just got new stiller 2500x action ARA gun built up and his actions are second to none. I have a flash turbo and a hall and neither are close to the new stiller 2500x. I was just wonder about overall weight from the turbo footprint to a 40x footprint. Either way the gun will have a stiller action on it.

Sounds like you've pretty much got it figured out, post some pictures when it's finished.

Ditto on what he said....I shoot a 40X single shot action that was set up by one of the old ARA guys with a cone breech. It's not that difficult but if you get a case of match nerves in conjunction with fumble fingers it can cost you a shot. On the other hand the Rem platform allows me to use the same Jewel trigger setup like in my HP rifles...all in what you like.
