Looking for a good recoil pad.

I have an Anschutz 1710 and it has the factory standard plastic butt plate. I don't like this as it has a tendency when chambering ammunition sometimes to slide out of position and as I am sure you guys and gals know once confidence is gone in equipment its time to move on.

I don't care about brand or if its thick or thin I am just looking for something that will provide the most amount of traction

If it is traction you want try. The stick on sandpaper you use for different sanders and you can get it in different grit sizes. You can also replace it as it wears down sanding your shoulder off. You may also look at the grit strips you would put on stair steps.

For 22's this is my favorite one, never slips.

Thank you Yankee that's a handy quick fix but I wouldn't want to destroy my jacket .
Have ordered that one from brownells . Are they hard to fit ?

A piece of a 'flip-flop' works great. Sand off one smoth side to rough it up and go against your shoulder and glue the other smoth side to your stock.

You can give the unused one to your one legged girlfriend, Ilean.

The flip-flop also works great sometimes they even come in contrasting colors. The Brownells pad should screw on and the flip-flop would glue on. With either one I have used a disc sander with a table set 90 degrees from the disc. I put a layer of masking tape around the stock about two inches wide. Mount the pad to the stock then sand the sides of the pad until you just start to touch the tape and STOP. TAKE YOUR TIME You get in a hurry and you get into the stock. You can use a course sanding pad till you get close to the stock then switch to a finer one for the final 1/16 inch or so. Keeping the pad even with the line of the stock so everything looks square and even. Do this outside or with a dust collector- you are going to make lots of rubbery dust. On rubber pads that do not grip I have cut slits across the face of them about 1/8 inch deep about 1/8 inch apart.

These actually work very well and eliminate the chance of stock damage.

For sometime, I used a narrow piece of rubber door weather stripping with adhesive back from True Value. It now has a 1" rubber thick slip on butt plate I got from my local lgs through below distributor.

I scissor cut the length so only 2" is slipped onto the wood stock. I needed the added 1" stock length.
