Finally got around to finishing this project. Steve Wooster stock with Rem 700 in 260. Had problems with weight, ended up @ 8lb 15.6 oz. Hart #5 @24"

love the scenic photo, great looking rifle. I am still working on the finish and getting the epoxy ones lighter. I have even built me a new stock and working on the other. I have did a few rifles that I had to put on weightwatchers diet. Steve W.

was able to get finished stock to weigh 2 lbs 1.5 oz including pachmayre recoil pad. This pad is 4 oz alone. Put bridging in front foreend using epoxy and air bubbles, and used aluminum spacer in magazine area for support as well. Went with heavy barel #5 and lightened all components to the extreme, bolt, mag well etc. Turned out very nice.

bwilliams, a piece cut off of a flip-flop is a lot lighter and grips the shooting vest real well. Thoes comercial recoil pads are heavy.

Yes Jerry, you are right, flip flop rubber works very well and is a lot lighter, however, have used the Pachmayre recoil in past builds, yes they are heavy, but a quality built recoil pad. Had always had this as a plan "B" if could not meet the 9lbs. Got creative on the metal work and stock instead.

Have not shot this one yet. Itching to take it out and break her in.

My other 260 same #5 contour in 8 twist, use a lot of different flavours. Some of our ranges in HP are reduced distances and therefore use different loads. Bullets I have used range from 85g,90g,100g,107g,108g,120g 139g,140g. Have used a lot of different powders, from fast to slow. For full distance use either Lapua 108g and 139g or sierra 120g and 140g. Have left a few rams full range and yes could push them harder, just playing the odds.

I was curious as I just switched to Lapua 108s and 139s. Tomorrow will be the second match I've used them for. I'm really impressed with the accuracy in my 6.5 bobcats.

I was having great luck with hornady 95vmax and 140amax's but they're so hard to find now.

Really like the Lapuas 6.5mm. They shoot very good. Great BC. Very uniform weight. Ogive is consistent throughout, and these Lapua bullets are easy to find in Canada and the price same as Sierra.
