Sorry Leupold customer service

Just thought I'd vent a little on here, I recently purchased a FX3 25x Silhouette scope from Leupold, I already have one of these on another rifle. This scope is about half the power it should be, the chickens are tiny and you can barely see the rams, had it too long to return it to Optics Planet. I called Leupold and explained the problem, they said send it back, which I did, it came back 2 weeks later exactly the same. Called Leupold again, this time the customer service guy said to send it to his attention, which I did, got it back tonight exactly the same, the note says "inspection request" I typed an elaborate note explaining the problem, 2 copies, one in the scope box and one in the shipping box. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get good results? I thought Leupold was supposed to be a first class company, I'm very disappointed in them.

Have you properly adjusted the eye pieces on both scope the same ? Some optics depending on how they are built , can change the acutally x's some what with eyepiece adjustment . Have you compared other 25x's to other similar powered scopes ? could be your other be a 30x or ??

I have the exact same scope mounted on another rifle, had several people compare them, all agreed that this scope is about half the power is should be. This is a fixed power scope, did play with the parallax, could not get it anywhere near the magnification on the one on my other rifle. Definitely something wrong with this scope. The image is nice and clear, just way under powered. I can actually adjust this thing at objects as close as 20 feet away, can't do that with the proper the 25x one. I guess that the notes I sent in with this scope are ignored or just thrown away when they get to Leupold. The tech probably just looks through it, sees that it's clear and sends it back. Very sorry customer service!

Well in that case I'd look up specs for field of view at 100 and than set up spmetimg so ad to get a close measurement of what your really seeing , record it and than call leupold again with more details and see what they have to say . Or what will take for it ?

It's hard to figure. In my experience with them, persistence pays off. I was looking on there web site for a new scope, I also wanted a fixed 25 or 30. Noticed they had game cameras, (Leupold, got to be good ones) was in the market for some of them as well. Chicken's disappearing, looking for culprit. Bought two of there game cameras from Cabela's (with scope money). Pure junk. Did not work right from the get go. Returned them to Cabela's, they replaced them. Excellent customer service. New cameras, still didn't work. Called Cabela's, cameras still don't work. Sorry we can't replace them, out of electronics warranty. Send then to Leupold. Long story short, cameras are manufactured in a place called Crap, (China). I sent them back for a third time, to Leupold, with an accompanying letter, do what you want with these, BUT DO NOT SEND THEM BACK TO ME. A very nice young lady called me from Leupold, said after some brow beating, (that's all I know, I swear) the manager agreed to send me a new 30X scope. They did what I asked. I have never had any issues with there optics. You do have it mounted in the right direction, right? :D If you look through the going out end first, things look smaller. I can say that, I'm out of harms way. :D Keep trying, I think they do care about there customers.
Stay Safe
Mark

Meh, I say put a bullet through it end to end and send it back in. That should ensure a fix ;)

Leupold is the only 100% American owned, 100% American Workers in the Factory, Company manufacturing Optics suitable for our Sport, Silhouette. Nightforce and the other 100% American optics manufacurers' optics are too heavy for our weight restrictions in Silhouette. Some of Leupold's cheaper products I am guessing are made overseas ie. game cameras and binoculars but not the high end riflescopes. There are lots of Chinese counterfeit scopes out there now that look like Leupolds especially the Mark 4 series. Hopefully, Optics Planet did not buy a batch of those and sell you one. Buy a Custom Shop Leupold from Chicken George Shooting Supply, a vendor here on this forum. The image quality of those scopes will spoil you to the point you will never buy anything else. The only thing is your pocket book will be much lighter.

VX or FX? VX is variable power and FX straight. I am assuming you are trying to say you bought a FX25 and it is not the power marked on the bell, like maybe a 12X?

Did you download the work order request form and fill it out with that description? If you just put "inspect scope" that is all I would have done, look at it, say "yup, that is a scope" and send it back..... They arn't clairvoyant....

It's a FX-3 (corrected typo in first post) I sent a very detailed note both times when I sent the scope back, the second time I put 2 copies, one in the shipping box and one in the scope box. They completely ignored the note both times, talked to customer service again today and here is the reply:

"Attached, find your calltag for the return of your scope for service. I visited with our Repair Department Manager about the service on your scopes. He says that unless the scope gets pulled and delivered to our Engineering department that scope will only see our standard battery of inspection , testing and calibration. Checking to make sure that the magnification matches what is supposed to be in the scope is not included in those tests. I’m sorry our techs neglected to get your scope flagged for this additional level of testing."

So as I suspected they ignored the notes. Get to send it back free, hope they fix it this time!

Sorry to hear that. Sound like the ring on the bell doesn't match the actual scope magnification. Stuff happens, we are all human. FWIW I have had 4 scopes repaired adjusted in the last couple years and Leupold has far exceeded any reasonable expectation I could have had. I do wish you'd rethink the title to this thread. As far as I know, they are the only manufacture, American or otherwise who make 2 scopes SPECIFICLY for this game, which I assure you the market is miniscule compared to their other lines. Your problem is a odd one and it is unfortunate that it slipped through the cracks 3 times (including when the scope was built) but publicly flogging a other wise congenial company isn't beneficial to any of us.

I think his public flogging is warranted. I also think he should give them another try to fix it. What else you gonna do? You can't sell it knowing that it is faulty. I would however express your displeasure and request some form of "compensation" for your inconvenience and frustration.

Really? They have dropped the ball but haven't told him to pound sand. For every hundred satisfied customers you only hear from the one who is not happy and 99% of the time they are at least partially at fault. Not saying the OP is. Completely understand the problem but they haven't told him to take his scope and get bent. They have simply misunderstood his complaint. No idea of what you or the OP do for a living but I would bet it's not dealing with unreasonable people. There are some companies who deserve customers ire. I don't think Leupold is one, at least not publicly on a forum that can be linked to by search engines. It's bad karma.

Just my opinion. Judge how you want to be judged....

Leupold is an amazing company, but they deserve no blind eye when they drop the ball like this. They get all the praise when they do things right which is almost all the time, and when they drop the ball there is absolutely nothing wrong with putting it out there. They produced a faulty product, failed to fix/replace it... twice (including after repeated explanations). Exactly WHEN is it ok to publicly voice a customer's displeasure? How many times does he need to send it back before it is ok to complain?

I love Leupold too but that doesn't absolve them from being at fault from time to time.

I agree. They screwed he pooch on this one TWICE. It's not like they give their scopes away  You are paying up front for that great service. So not getting it can be understandably upsetting. But I am sure they will make it right. Eventually! Everyone knows crap happens and no one is perfect. Hope they get you straightened out in short order.

The product is mislabeled, not faulty. That is why it came back twice. I'm not saying they didn't droped the ball, they did. Publicly berating them for a mistake that is so
odd and out of place that they failed to catch it is a bit harsh. What if they instituted a new warranty disclaimer that their product carries no warranty for competition use. I have use A LOT of items in my life that had just such a warranty clause.

We'll just have to agree to disagree and I retain, judge how you want to be judged.... Just sayin.
