A guy on another forum said he just swapped in a 5018 trigger for a 5096d. No modifications, drop in. I never swapped a trigger, but I recall I read it took a bit of milling and/or an adapter. I guess the reference is for the wing safety model, maybe the side safety is drop in? I have shot 54:18s with the 5022 trigger, and they are heads above the factory 2 stage.
I have a pharr stocked 1712 with the wing safety. I also have a new 1712 side safety in the safe in a wood stock. What would need to be done to swap the newer 1712 action to the pharr stock and add a 5022 trigger? Thanks.

THey are not compatible as a drop in per my recollection as to my questioning Evelio on the exchange.... I asked Homer at Champions Choice and he said the 1712 2 stage was as good as it gets for that rifle....

It's a shame as the 5018 is pure sex.

I think Tureau has one on his 1712. The 5018 trigger. I might be confusing it with his HP triggers but IIRC he has them on everything.

Honestly if you set it right the 1712 is a fine trigger. Not quite as crisp as the 5018 and lacks the extreme setting adjustments but if it is a 2lb trigger you need anyway I think that brings the 5018 closer to the 1712s trigger than is does the other way around. Shoot one rifle with one trigger and most typical shooters are likely to shoot higher scores overall. The upper level shooters even stick to one rifle at times if not all the time. Most of them just have so many toys they have to play with them

No, Jerry does not have a 5018 trigger on his 1712. The 5018 wont work on the 1712. Jerry does have a 5018 trigger on his standard high-power rifle, a Remington 700 with a briley adapter. The 1712's trigger is outstanding for silhouette. It will not hold you back.

The only way I know to have a 18 or 22 series trigger on a hunter class barreled action is to rebarrel a 54 with a tapered tube and drop it into a hunter class stock. You're talking serious wampum. $600 for barrel, $800 -$1600 for an action, $700 for a custom stock.

It will be better than the 1712 trigger. But as Dustin said, not enough to hold you back from master class or winning nationals.

I also agree with Merlin, the 18 trigger is pure sex. The second stage is so well defined and there are infinite adjustments to get it just right. I enjoy shooting my MSR!

I have the European 2-stage trigger on a 1710. It differed from the 1712 2-stage trigger primarily in having a fixed trigger blade which is not adjustable for position. The total pull weight is adjustable, but the second stage pull weight is roughly half of whatever the total weight is. The 5018 trigger in my other hunter gun is more adjustable, but I wound up with pretty much the same settings, maybe a very few ounces difference in the second stage and the sear engagement I like a little bit better. I have some 5018s on high power actions and like them, but I doubt I would go to the trouble again. The CG Jackson trigger is, I think, it's equal.

Back to the 1712. There are two different cams available for it. (Neal Stepp knows about these if you are interested.) the first one brought into the U.S. resulted in complaints of people "pulling through" the second stage and so it was changed for one that gave a very slightly heavier second stage. Somewhere or other I used to have the parts to convert a single stage to the Euro spec trigger, but I never bothered to change things out on the spare trigger. If you feel like you just HAVE TO CHANGE SOMETHING, try a trigger shoe or wider trigger blade. Otherwise, just enjoy it. It's a fine trigger.

When I first worked on a new 1712 with the side safety, and what first looked like a 54 bolt, my first thought was to try a 5018 trigger on it. The 5018 trigger mounting screws line up with the 1712, but some clearance slots had to be machine in the action, and the 5018 trigger dropped right in, I was really happy, but when I put the bolt in, it would not cock, I tried everything I could think of, and no luck, so I gave up.
In other words, NO a 5018 trigger can't be installed on a 1712 action, at least not by me.
