Hi, I'm new here an could use some help. I don't think IK have a local rage around my area (close that is) and I'm interested in improving my off hand shooting. It seems like Silhoutte would be perfect. I hand planned on making a bench rest range at home. If I were to setup a silhotte (not fancy but safe and functional where would I look for info? And where is an economical place to purchase the silhoettes that don't break the bank? I have a couple CZ's and some ammo. It too cold in Minnesota right now so its a good time to dream?

I'd appricate all responses.

Well, sort of - lots of disagreement among the members. There is the Annie faction and the CZed faction - and they would never agree to agree on anything. And in highpower there is the 6.5 group and the 7mm group - each says the other is wrong.

Wanna have fun - ask about ammo! No, on 2nd thought you better not.

But, if you can sift through the web site you can learn some good stuff...but it may not be the first answer you see.

Ditto on the Quality Targets
This is what I use. Scaled to shoot at forty meters. I used a ground rod to hang them from ($10.00) some brackets I had on hand, and some gas rod. Some PVC for spacers. Works for me.

birchwood casey nra animal silhouette resettable targets,found these a couple weeks ago,scaled for practice at 40 meters,$70.00

I use targets I found on-line to make a template. I use the template to cut SB "animals" out of Shoot N See targets. This makes it easy to see the bullet strikes with a pair of binoculars, and they can be repaired at the range.
All you'll need is a sharp knife and a steady hand.

Swingers are the way to go. If you have the distance to use full size so much the better but scaled swingers are good too. If you plan to shoot at a range make sure they don't have a rule that says targets must be right in front of a berm as that would make shooting the odd distance targets hard if not impossible. Some ranges are picky about this due to edge hits flying off in random directions. Full distance swingers will give you the real deal with handling wind at the Turkey and Ram lengths.

I looked at the Birch-wood Casey's, still prefer the swingers from Quality Targets. I can shoot each individual animal as many times as I like. 5,10 or 15 without having to reset. I think you come closer to simulating an actual match that way. I'm very fortunate as these are in my back yard. I shoot from my carport. I have a bench set up for rifle rest and can set timer as if shooting an actual match. The hardest part is starting at far end of carport, shouting out range commands, making it to gun, loading and make ready in the allotted 15 seconds. But I'm working on that part. Word of caution. While good practice, the forty meter targets. I feel, I still need to practice on the full size animals at there proper distances. The wobble factor seams to vary somewhat, according to range. Funny how that is, maybe it's just me. Could be scope. I sent it to Leupold and had a 1/2 min. dot put in. I think I got the pendulum reticule back.

I sent my scopes to TK Lee for 3/8" dots and I think I got a Karaoke bouncing ball reticule back at times myself

Don't overlook simple paper silhouette targets either. The paper will tell you a lot more than swingers or free standing animals about what you are doing. The paper doesn't lie and will let you know if you are dropping out of shots or not following through and just how much.

If I want to get really depressed, I put a piece of cardboard behind swingers. I have a never ending supply of 4x8 sheets of it. As Dee said it's a good indicator of did and didn't s. It also helps in calling ones shots. You should know at trigger break where that shot went. Then that brings up the why and why nots. I find it's best done with no one else around, less embarrassing. My Grandfathers favorite saying was, I may not have hit him, but I burned him. With the paper, you will know how close you came to burning him. And if your shot call was correct. I spend as much, or more time dry firing as I do in actual shooting. When I do shoot, I save all my brass. Reuse it to dry fire with. The hardest part for me is finding the time to practice. I have to make myself stop what I'm doing, and just do it. Because if you don't (practice) you will be doing more burning than hitting. How good you want to be, is directly related too how much you practice. You have to look good while your shooting as well, that's important. About half of my gun is on it's way to Dale at Gun Candy right now. I want to look damn good, while I'm burning them.

I like your swingers, didn't see them on Quality target website, who made them?
