torque? 1712, in a Wooster stock?

Last April, at the Conard Bernhardt Match, I won the door prize, a beautiful Annie 1712 in a Steve Wooster stock.... only been that lucky once before (when my Redhead said yes!).... Shoots like a dream with Eley Club.... love the rifle.

Do I torque the action screws? If so, what values?

Yes................. You need to play with that just a little. I would start at 30 inch pounds and work up from there. I would not go over 45 inch pounds. Make sure that it is seated in the proper location before torqueing the action screws.

Anschutz recommends 5 Newton meters (A newton meter is a unit of torque (also called "moment") in the SI system.)) as the proper torque for their SB rifles', action-screws' torque, that's 45 inch-lbs. Annie makes a very nice torque wrench that will fit just about anywhere. Also, screw in the action screws with very light torque using an Allen wrench. Next, smack the butt on the ground. Finally, go after the 5 Newton-meter torque with the rifle in the same butt-down position.

I installed pillars and quit torquing long ago. It was my experience that the foam filler was too squishy for my comfort so I pillar bedded my Roberson Composites RTS. I'm not knowledgeable enough about how the filler material in the Wooster stock will compress when put under pressure from 45 in-lbs of screw torque to put forth a recommendation. I'd bet money the Wooster filler doesn't have the compression properties as walnut. I'm basing my concern over the filler compressing and being permanently deformed to where the action would just keep riding lower and lower into the stock.

Maybe an expert can address my experience as it applies to the OP original question?

Yes, I was concerned about crushing the filler ....... both Dennis M and Steve W (heard of those guys?) in our beloved rainy Washington State say to bring em' up "just snug," and maybe experiment around with them....both of my guns are pillar-bedded....... Thanks everyone.....

If Steve said to just snug them thats what I'd do. He did make the stock after all...
