The game and nomenclature? I have a email a month either directed to me through our clubs web sight or from someone who finds my email on their own. 9 out ot 10
have NRA CLA silhouette confused with the grown men larping* to the old west. Which was first? Cowboy action shooting or Cowboy Lever Action NRA Silhouette?
Lever Action'Iron Sight (LAIS) Silhouette would be more accurate. =))

*Larping, if you don't know what it is ask someone under 20. =)) :o)

We old guys barely know anyone under 55 so here's my contribution to the thread.

LARPING stands for live action role-playing

I'm with you, the name is dumb. Fun game, dumb name. I always call it lever gun silhouette Which isn't technically right for SBCR but it gets the word "cowboy" out of the name so people don't confuse it with SASS.

The game is a hoot. As soon as you tell someone "cowboy lever action" they loose interest OR they are all excited about getting their chaps and fringed shirts out.....

I wrote to the NRA about the name confusion a couple of years ago but of course they don't see a problem.

So it's not just me.... I am glad to hear that. I wonder if there is a way to get a name change? I mean even if it's just take the "Cowboy" part out of the moniker would be great.

Small Bore Lever Action Silhouette - SBLA
Pistol Cartridge Lever Action Silhouette - PCLA
High Power Lever Action Silhouette - HPLA

Or am I way off base?

Problem with the Lever is it would be confusing because Small Bore can use a pump or any tube non-bolt firearm.

<humor>I think we should add handles, and have to say stupid things at the start of each string. Like Black Bart, says kill all those chickens(, or zombie chickens)......<humor off>

Plus I cannot wait to see Emmett in full cowboy get up. Hat, boots, chaps, shirt, etc.

I have some arse-less chaps I could wear.... =))

Even though the caveots with SB "lever" is there any way. I like just plain Lever Action. Think I will start putting it on my Jury reports....

At least your not alone. even here in Aussie its the same.
When you tell someone you shoot CLAS the second thing you have to say is "no we don't dress up"

The first time I knew of CLA was 1989 - learned of it at Raton. Shooters had to wear "full heal" cowboy boots - that was the only dress code. Of course when we got back to Texas we eliminated the boot part - yea, we had 'em , but why mess up a good pair snakeskins to shoot lever guns.

Now I shoot at the Tucson club - where the first silhouette match was held (got the idea from Pancho Villa). Pretty much a tennis shoe and t-shirt bunch these days.

PS: Pancho was not happy with the accuracy of his troops, so he put live animals out for them to shoot and said, "You want to eat, you learn to shoot." I wonder how many ate cabrito and how many ate pollo?

G'day from the Game Ranch.
Couldn't agree more!!
I just call it lever gun silhouette.
Whenever some w##ker suggests that we should "dress-up"
I tell them I gave up playing "cowboys and indians" when I was about 5 years old.
Real cowboys wouldn't be caught dead wearing some of the get up "those" folks wear.
Best reserved for the "Line Dancing crowd" me thinks ;)

P.S. G'day Russ, ring me!
