long range lever 22 match

The BPCR folks usually have their big .22 match a couple of days after the lever nationals. I was wondering if we could convince them to have an Iron Sight lever .22 class. I think it would be a hoot to shoot out to 200 yards with my lever .22. I know our guns can't compete with theirs, but it would be cheap fun and an excuse to stay another day or two and shoot.

Glen I'm sure they would entertain your entry. Your rifle is as good as any of their's. You may become addicted to using crossed sticks the reach out to the farther targets. Contact Harold Itchkawich at ncsapala.com for a place to "get 'er' done". I think I saw the next match on the 5th Saturday in Sept. There is a very nice place to stay very near the range with excellent dining provisions. Good luck and have fun, Steve Tapp

Yep - our next long range .22 match at Pala is next month! I use a Crossno liner in my Sharps, but we do have a shooter who regularly shows up with his 39a and shoots the match all offhand! I'm still trying to match my score of 7 chickens I dropped last winter. It's a very fun match we all look forward to...

That sounds pretty neat, Baja Traveler, it would be interesting to try the .22 b.p. ammunition at 200.
A few months ago I tried some Mos .22 cast bulleted .22 l.r. black powder ammo (4.5 Swiss Null B) on the 200 meter 1/2 size ram target just to see how it would do. Rifle was my 39A circa 1948 w/8X scope fired from a bench. Looks like it is capable :D
The wind was coming in from 9:00 and I was holding on the left hand edge.

Yea, everybody always asks why I'm not shooting the BP .22's at the long range match, since I shoot them everywhere else. Only reason is the Crossno liner is match reamed and my loads don't fit!
The targets we shoot are alot smaller than that - probably 1/4 size I guess. The chickens are the size of a 50 cent piece, Rams maybe 8 inches across...

Baja Traveler,
That is the 1/2 size ram (2.5/5's size)at 200 meters which would project the same area as the full size ram at 400 meters so your ram is probably 2/5's size. The chickens at 50 meters are similar in size to the 40M smallbore chickens.
