I "discovered" a LGS that has all sorts of lever guns. Was really tempted to buy one that needed some easy work. But I thought I'd ask - anyone shooting .25-35 in Lever Action Silhouette? I know ammo might be a problem, but I know how to fire-form.

I have seen people using the 25-35 at the last CLAS nationals I attended at raton. Ammo shouldnt be a big issue, I know winchester are making and selling unprimed cases for them.

Per the rule book... Looks like the 25-35 is legal for CLA, but not PCCLA. A number of folks shoot it's "little brother", (the 25-20) in PCCLA:

Some people shoot them and are ok with one or 2 rams that won't cooperate.

Hard thing would be finding one in a suitable rifle. Nice old Marlin in 25/35 would be very competitive. I have a friend that shoots the caliber in a single shot, it can be very accurate and if loaded to potential adequate power. Cases easy to make out of 30/30 plenty of good 25 cal bullets to chose from

Does he shoot it in silhouette competition?? If so, how does he get around the load from the tube-mag rule?? I would love to shoot a falling block single shot lever gun for this game...

I think Massey shoots a 25-35 and does very well with it. The first three animals don't require that much power, and I think Hornady makes a 117 grain round nose jacketed bullet. I think this bullet can be loaded to over 2200fps in a good gun and cases can be formed from 30-30 cases. If I find a good 25-35 Winchester i think I'm going to try one.

He's not using the single shot 25/35 in Silhouette competition.

Both of us have .25's on CPA single shot actions, His a 25/35 mine a .25 Krag. Watching his 25 perform makes me wish I had one to shoot CLA with, instead of my Marlin 36A 30/30 No mater they are hard to find as original and CLA you can't re barrel to a different caliber. Which is a good thing. Saves me the expense of a re-barrel job

I have a 25-35 Winchester 94 made in 1896. I shot it the whole season in 2011. It's very accurate, shoots flat, and is very easy on the shoulder. Problem is it will not reliably knock down rams. I lost three rams at nationals with it that year. It's simple, if you want to win you can't lose rams. I may revisit it at some point, and see what I can ring out of it with some of the newer powders on the market. Al Foust

I haven't been to Raton for a few years, but I do remember their targets were heavier than my home range. I saw a 30-30 ring a pig and some of the .22 targets fell a lot slower than I was used to seeing. But I guess you gotta plan for the big time if your going to compete. Maybe I'll find a good 25-35 (or 7-30 Waters) and go back to Raton next year.
