Called in to upgrade my membership earlier and had to wait on hold for a while. The lady that I talked to at that number listed sounded tired as she ran me through the upgrade process. I asked her if she could confirm whether or not I could keep my same NRA member ID number since I shoot a fair number of matches and already have that number memorized. Evidently she was fairly new, and it sounded like the NRA has had to hire some help to handle the massive volume of new membership, so she pointed me toward the NRA membership customer service line. Now I've been waiting on hold on that line for 10 or 15 minutes, hearing this message interrupt the hold music every couple of minutes: "Thank you for calling the National Rifle Association. Due to the attack on our second amendment, we are experiencing higher than expected call volumes...." Evidently, Obama isn't just great at selling guns. He's also great at driving up NRA membership.
