A recent visit from Russ4570 involved a walk along the ridge to test some ram loads. He was blowing smoke out of his Rolling Block while I used my '94 Winchester.
Loads in mine seemed to work quite well. 250gr cast with 10gr of AP-70 behind it. Keep an eye on Russ4570 youtube page for more.

FWIW, I've been finding 9.5gr of AP70 to be pretty good, with 10grs not far behind.

The load I use is working well in CLAS, haven't had a ram stand yet. I think I'll need to find a hollow point mold for hunting though, the RNFP goes straight through every thing, you have to line them up front on or Texas heart shots to keep it in the animal. Going north tomorrow to the family farm up near Tamworth, will try it out on some hogs.

Agreed. I've tried the Lee 250gr bullet cast in 50% WW/50% pure lead and that projectile just keeps going and going. I shot some paper up north over the christmas break at 100m to see how the rifle would shoot and was able to get 5 shot groups with the bead and tang sight around 3-4" of some cross sticks which is more than acceptable with my eyes and open sights and probably as good as I could do.

What was interesting was the size and depth of the holes in the ground i was making . I dug one out and short of a little scrape on one side you could nearly reload the bullet again, the momentum they carry is awesome. In a furry thing, as you say, they'd just go through and keep going. Do you know of any hollow points moulds for the 375/38-55? Not much of an issue for me as I'm very unlikely to shoot anything much with mine other than steel, and regardless of what projectile and load combination I use I just can't seem to get much penetration. Plenty of expansion but just bugger all penetration. Even on them pesky chickens
