So I've been scheming of ways to get around the haz mat charge that Uncle Parcel Service and Schmed Ex (fed ex) charge for powder and primers etc.

Lo' and behold. Powder Valley is offering a promotion for September in which you don't pay the $27.50 haz fee if you order 32lbs of powder or more.

Anybody in WA want get gang up on an order? I can have it received at the UPS facility in Redmond and then bring it to what ever match is coming up.

I'm definitely up for it. I need to figure out how much I need of what powder. I'm not terribly low on anything, but I can always use more of the powders that I go through fairly consistently. I'll post another topic on a powder that I'm considering, CFE 223. I'm thinking about having that replace Varget for highpower loads for the short animals.

I'm in for 16lb of powder an few K of primers. I'll PM you with details.

Just curious Jason. Have you tried N140? I like that it's very clean burning and the burn rate looks like it would make a pretty awesome load. Wondering why more sil shooters don't use the VV ammo line (other than Mallory). Is it just a cost thing? Inquiring minds want to know!

im down for some powder and primers. I need some varget and some of the new IMR 8208 XBR, probably a keg of both. I tried the 8208 for c p t and had great success with it. Loaded up 35 grains with a 108 scenar and got clover leafs at 200 meters. IMR says it for benchrest but it shoots darn good out my rifles. I will pm you bigfoot.

Just got the big jug of CFE223 yesterday and loaded up some rounds for the centerfire CLAS match on Saturday. So far the powder seems to be as promised. It's definitely a ball powder, and they're tiny like very fast pistol powder. I used the data from Hodgdon to load up 30-30 rounds with some 130-grain Speer FP bullets, choosing the low end of the charge range. I have to admit that it freaked me out to load 30+ grains of what looks like pistol powder into rifle cases, which is probably what made me choose the low end of the charge range as much as not really needing high velocity to knock down a pig at 100 meters or turkey at 150 meters. It did meter like a dream compared to Varget and H4350 that I normally use for most of my rifle rounds. Unless something goes wrong, I can definitely see all CLA rounds being charged with the measure on the Hornady AP progressive press in the future.

I hope to get a chance later this afternoon to test it off the bench at 100 meters (CLA pig distance) to see what groups I get. If it works well then and in the match on Saturday, it will be time to start doing some serious testing with the CFE 223 powder and 100-grain Hornady A-Max bullets in the 260 Rem. I almost wish I didn't have 200+ rounds of 223 Rem loaded up with Varget so I could do a bunch of those with the CFE 223 powder as a "test" too...

The powder valley guys are keeping this going for October. $19.95 shipping and no haz. I kinda love these guys...Sniff...
