Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket recoil pad for a Marlin 336? I want one that is prefit and wont require any drilling or sanding.

Limbsaver makes a slip on (small ,med and large heel to toe length) and a screw on pre-fit. Unless you're a long armed shooter (36" sleeve) you may want to cut off an inch to keep the factory L.O.P. I use a ground to fit one. Same material and in-expensive. Kickease are better quality and more expensive, but no pre-fits available. My load is 170's @ 2200f.p.s. no pain or bruising after 80 shots + shoot-offs + sighters/practice, Steve

I took the recoil pad off of mine and took it to a gun shop to compare the size. I like the grind to fit type pads and they're relatively cheap. You can measure the pad and screw holes and pull up Midway or Brownell's web site. The dimensions are next to the pads you want. I had to go to a thicker pad on my 30-30 because the recoil was giving me too much of a punch.

Mary, as you know, putting a whooping on Jerry is a lot easier said than done; although I can beat him with a cowboy gun and occasionally in an air rifle match. He is teaching me about reloading now so he has a real challenge on his hands.

PS- I like Limbsavers, BUT... Hold onto your reciept... In my experience, the pre-fit ones only fit about half of the time, especially on 1894/336s. I use a slip on on a couple guns because I'm not willing to let the gun go long enough to have a smith put a "grind to fit" on it. A couple shotguns I have use the Pachmyer (sp?) Decellerator pad and I like those as well.

TIm, El Paso....Texas State High Power. Yes it is a conflict with the Florida Sunshine Games for smallbore rifle silhouette but even match director Extraordinaire Baby Huey understands the draw to that loud noise.

to be different and maintain the factory appearence you could install an edwards recoil reducer. i shot a 458 winchester and it was significantly lesss recoil. maybe overkill but why not, then it would be awesome for yery young shooters as well.
