I would appreciate any input on loads for the 25-36 Marlin you guys might have. I will be using resized 32-40 cases, so the case length will be correct (or thereabouts) for the 25-36. I also have a cannelure cutter to add a second crimp groove to the 117 gr Hornady RN bullet so I can seat them to the correct OAL. Rifle is of course a Marlin 1893, manf. 1903 or so. I have a fairly wide assortment of cast and jacketed bullets to try, ranging from a 73 gr Lyman cast bullet to the 117 gr Hornady jacketed.

Since the 25-36 Marlin is very close to the 25-35 Winchester, personally, I would use 25-35 data for your 117 gr J bullets.

A fellow using a 25-36 MArlin on the Marlin Owner forum uses 21/3031 under a 100 gr RCBS bullet for 1,750 f.p.s. and good groups.

GTS, I shot a 25-35 all last year. I used 24.5 of H-4895 for CPT and 25.5 of same for the rams. The gun is very accurate, but I lost more rams than I care to. It was a lot of fun to shoot. Al

Thanks to all for the replies. I appreciate the info. I think all of the loads mentioned fall within the loads listed in Ken Waters book, Pet Loads, or very close to them. I finished cutting a new cannelure in the 117 Hornadys last night and will be testing a few loads this weekend. I'm sure I will loose a few rams as well if I use it for silhouette.

I may have a new favorite lever gun. The 25-36 Marlin is a pleasure to shoot, and very accurate as well. I used it in our lever action cowboy match this past weekend. I was a little surprised to see how well it took the rams down, although I did ring one that was hit mid flank. The others fell like you had hit them with a hammer. The extra velocity must make a difference. At any rate, I managed a 33 with the little 25 bore and had a great time shooting it. Final load was 22 grains of 3031, using the 117 Hornady with new cannelure cut to get correct OAL.

Better to have a high hit percentage and leave the occasional Ram Standing than shoot something "Reliable' on rams and a high miss rate.
