I took my friend shooting some steel yesterday. I have some good news and some bad news...... One, she out shot me!!!! (that is the good news) The bad news? She hates bolt action rifles. Are there any suitable alternatives? Something that would have the accuracy, consistancy and reliability in a Semi Auto, Pump or Lever? If there is an alternative (my guess is a Ruger 10/22 or Remington 597) is there a place where we can find one complete, sans glass, that is ready to go? She is so impatient!!!!

I'd look for a Thompson Center R55 - it looks like they're out of production, but they are semi-auto and the barrel is threaded. Nice rifle.

After that, a Ruger with a Green Mountain sporter barrel, Hogue over-molded stock and some Volquartsen trigger parts is pretty easy to assemble. There are several companies that specialize in custom 10/22's that could put together exactly what she wants, but it gets expensive. Volquartsen will sell you a CNC machined receiver and bolt if you want it, and those are probably pretty competitive.

A Remington 597 feels better to me, but there are more after-market parts for the 10/22. You can still get replacement barrel and trigger parts to improve performance, but the choices are more limited.

Oh boy, the ole 597! I literally did everything imaginable to that gun. The Jarvis barrel, the Jard trigger, the boyds stock, and everything else imaginable! Go with a 10/22 or the best suggestion possibly would be a new CZ 522, semi auto and lastly doesn't really need anything do e to it.

If you go the 10/22 route I'd go with a Kidd complete rifle http://www.coolguyguns.com/. He has the best triggers on the market and I have one of his he built for me for CMP that he tapered the barrel on and increased the trigger weight on (makes it good for hunter class as well) and it shoots great tight groups.

I'm going to give my CZ512 a try this season. It groups better than the bolt does. But required a lot of fiddling with the trigger to get it acceptable.

How about a Russian Biathlon Basic (BB 7-2) rifle with a toggle action? Very accurate, good triggers out of the box, and not too expensive. By the time you spend enough time and money on a 10/22 or Rem 597 to match the quality of a rifle like the BB 7-2, you would have spent far more.

That's what I ment CZ 512 not 522.

Toggle action, you pull the handle back to open the action and eject the spent case, and push it forward to load the next round.

So, no European Autos? I was thinking along the lines of a Voere (Austrian), or Krico (German).

European chambers are tighter than US chambers. I'd have thought that with a European chamber and US (spec) .22lr, that tighter chamber would have better accuracy. No?

I already have a CZ-452 Amer. for this sport, looking for a lightweight (stylish) rifle for the wife. Black plastic is out as she only likes wood.

A lot can be done with a 10/22. It won't be cheap but you can build a very accurate rifle out of one.

If you can find one weatherby made A semi auto both clip and tube feed models. They were also the called the mark II. These guns in the clip fed shot very well and feel just like holding A bolt gun (wish I still had mine). You would want one in the clip fed model and at A recent gun show in Pittsburgh Pa I found one that looked new for $500.00. I was mad at myself the whole 4 hour ride home for not buying it.
