Howdy fellow enthusiasts,
A friend lives in Denver, CO and is interested in trying NRA Cowboy SIlhouette.
Where would the closest range be located?

Thank you,
w30wcf

Hi, Jack,

Here's a link to the Golden Gun Club. It's on the opposite side of Denver from the town of Golden -- about 20 miles east near Watkins. Although the matches follow NRA rules, generally, there are some minor differences. They shoot three times a month, one gun only at each match. Weather permitting, they shoot year 'round.

The Aurora Gun Club also shoots lever gun silhouettes, PC and SB only. It's also on the east side not far from the Golden Club. These matches are NRA approved.

I haven't shot at Aurora, but I get to Golden several times a month, including yesterday for the SB match.

I had forgotten that the Colorado Rifle Club has begun to shoot NRA lever gun silhouettes, also. I haven't shot there yet as it's a bit far for me from Pueblo. I'd guess it's about 50 miles east of Denver.

BTW, how was your shoot at Ridgway?

Cimmaron Red,
Many thanks for the info. I will pass the information along.

Had a great time at the Jubilee. Weather wasn't the greatest (windy, rain) but our spirits were high. :D
The highlight of the weekend was when Steve, shooting offhand, hit a bobcat at 950 yards with a cast
bullet from his 30 W.C.F. 1894-1994 Centennial WInchester. Awesome! :D

J,

You're most welcome! Glad you had a great shoot. Yep, I know about the Ridgway weather. Did Sixgun make it up?

I will be attending the 11-13-2011 match at GGC. This will be my first CLA match what should I bring besides gun, ammo, ears, eyes, and good attitude?

The gun will be my Winchester 94 in .30-30 and ammo will be remington 150gr core-lokt.

Can you direct me to any online sites that show the correct stance? So that I can try to practice a bit before the match.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Workinmansteve

W-Steve, show up, there will be lots of help there. Most silhouette shooters are that way. Correct stance is what works for you with your rig. Be prepared to try other set ups, silhouette shooters are a bragging lot and almost always willing to let see how great their equipment is.

Steve,

Send an email to the Match Director, Kevin Hedke. His address is on the GGC web site in the lever action silhouette section. Kevin notifies all the shooters on his list if the upcoming match must be canceled due to bad weather or range conditions. He will also email you the shoot results the evening of the match. On the site you'll also find a number for the club's hotline. If any weather is threatening, phone that number to get an update on the status of the match before you head out to the range.

There will be three or four relays, so you'll be with several other shooters. You'll be expected to re-set your own targets, if you're physically able. You may be called on to spot for another shooter so it's a good idea to bring binoculars you're comfortable with. Bring water and a snack, if you'd like. The match will be over around 1:00. Kevin runs a tight ship, safety wise, and the shooters appreciate it. BTW, Golden also has a single-shot class and a revolver class.

I hope to meet you there on the 13th. Perhaps we can shoot together.

Cimarron Red,
Sixgun was planning on making it to Ridgway but with the not so great weather forecast (rain, wind) he decided to stay home saying that he did not want to get his vintage Winchester's wet. As it turned out the weather wasn't quite as bad as was predicted.....thankfully.....

We'll get him to Ridgway one of these years......

w30wcf,

Sixgun has a buffalo shoot at the Hamburg R & P Club in Berks County on November 5, so he'll get his long range steel fix there!
