I'm new to this forum and this sport. I'm really into shooting sporting clays and one of the guys I shoot with talked me into going to a local club to try smallbore silouette. So I mounted a 3x-9x scope on my old sears & roebuck 22lr, printed some targets off this website, and did some practicing. I was pretty bad! But anyway I went to the shoot. The targets seemed a lot bigger. I asked if I could go help them set them back up (so I could measure one) and the chickens measured 5"beak to tail. Are these pistol silouettes?

Sounds like the pistol one.

yup pistol size targets, they are also used for pistol cartridge and small bore cowboy. if the sears 22 is like a marlin model 60 you can use it for sb cowboy aslong as it is tubefed, just need to take off the scope.

At the club where I shoot, one day a month they have two non-NRA matches (not sure exactly what they're called). One match we shoot "1/2 size" targets and another where we shoot "3/8 size" targets.
On a seperate day, we have the NRA match where we shoot the NRA "1/5 size" targets.
Fractions refer to how big they are compared to the full-size high-power targets.
(People seem scared of those itsy-bitsy NRA targets and there's better turnout at the matches with the larger targets.
Often times the 1/2 size rams won't fall with a dead center hit from .22 LR and you have to shoot it at one end or the other to make it pivot off the rail. (Sometimes you have the same problem with pigs.)

This was just a fun shoot for the club to get some money. They signed 10 people up on a squad $3 per person. The club took $15, the winner won $10, the guy who took 2nd won $5. I just contributed to the pot! I have to say, I have some respect for what you guys and gals are doing. I can hit every target presentation in sporting clays (just not everytime!) But set some nonmoving turkeys out there at a known distance... And you would swear it was the first time I picked up something with a trigger!

22beers, there is something to be said for a controlled jerk while in motion with the target in motion, and a trigger squeeze at still target while you are "motionless."
It is surprising how well you can do, with a few times out. The shooting of the pistol size targets is fun and can be a little challenging with the longer distances as they do not always go down.
