We learned today that Saturdays match was an 'Approved' match and not a 'Registered' match which it needed to be to be a record... but it's still a 40 and a great match.

What distinguishes a "approved" for a "registered" match anyway? A match held on any date if the rules are followed should count for a record. Either you were shooting NRA silhouette at a match or you weren't. Are the registered matches the ones the NRA is expecting a kick back from or something? I mean you either shot a 40 during a "scheduled match" on a proper range with proper animals or you didn't.

If it goes in your score book that should be good enough for a record IMO. After all those scores from those mere "approved" matches count towards your classification ranking when you show up to a "registered" match! Seems one could claim they are only AAA class in "registered matches" and only Master at the local "approved" match in that case.

I think it was considered a practice match. (?)

Dee, The only national records that can be set at an approved match are long run records. All other records must be set at registered matches; which are typically state, regional or national matches. That's the way it has always been done. Al Foust

This is an excellent point, Dee. It would seem that any match following the NRA rules, and recorded in an official NRA score book, watched over by an official NRA Match Director, should count just as much as any other NRA match. I am in no danger of shooting a 40/40, but if I was in position to do so, I would be very upset if the NRA refused to recognize this achievement in a match that was conducted 100% in accordance with their rules.
