Anschutz 54 Match single shot action?

Greetings all,

I have done search on the forum about viability to use Anschutz 54 Match single shot action as a basis for a silhouette rifle, but the answers do not appear to be conclusive. I would, therefore, like to ask if someone has done so.

Kindest regards,

N

Nemo, More than one person has built a silhouette rifle off a single shot 54 action. Nothing wrong with that. Very good choice actually.

Mary,

thank you for the confirmation because from the posts on the forum I have gotten an impression that to make a weigh is rather difficult if not impossible. Now I will start hunting for the action.

Kindest regards,

N

Nemo,
Usually the action is not the problem...it is the size and weight of the barrel and stock. I have seen some Winchester 52 bull barrels cut down to 18" barrels to make weight, I wouldn't do that to a Annie 54, just rebarrel it, if it is a bull barrel and find a lighter stock that suits you.

Mary,

thank you for the explanation that makes sense. I will see if I can buy just the action by itself.

CWS,

thank you for the pictures, I think that you have too many action 54 based rifles and need to sell some.

Kindest regards,

N

Nemo...you cannot have too many 54 actions! Just like you can not have too many WInchester 52 actions!

259 you should break out the Red Machine and shoot it more!

The 54's are for the family... I shoot 40X's. And like Innocent said, you don't sell 54's... you buy them.

And Nemo, he failed to mention that he has more than one shooter in his family! So did you inherit another shooter with a marriage CW?

Yeah, (sigh) another reason to expand the collection. Good guy, but has a hard time understanding how he keeps getting outshot by GURLLS. Told him to get used to it. I did long ago.

CWS,

As far as I am concerned, not having one yet, it is an inappropriate attitude. :(

I've never sold a 54 action and probably won't....The latest acquistion, an 1808 single shot, has already been claimed by Mini Kitty for her next hunter build...I should have been more agressive in buying them a few years ago, before the Frankenhunter gun used 54 MSR's were very reasonable and single shot variants even more so.
Back then I didn't know that grandkids could claim a rifle that you bought and it magically became theirs....
