GA State Match

A nice spring day in south Georgia was spent preping the CGGC range for the Georgia State match. New position markers are posted above the firing positions aka Jacksoville so you can find your place in the crowd. The dirt has been levled for all you "concrete jungle" shooters. The Chicken bern was lowered 6" so the shortest of shooters can find the turkeys without waiting for the wind to blow the grass aside.
We actually have baseboard in the restrooms this year with fresh paint on the doors!!!
Randall is still cookin fish n' grits, the Boy Scouts are still chasin Chickens.
"When Pigs Fly" It's time to shoot in Georgia.
All Ya'll Come.

We are all exhausted! Great match, even better food and lots of fun. Very windy and gusty on Saturday which produced some low scores and by Sunday most were pretty tired and sandblasted so the scores didn't get a lot higher! Beautiful weather on Sunday, good growd, someone said 40 shooters, I didn't count. The range looked fantastic and the Stat office did it's usual job of getting the results out quickly and the fine plaques passed out to the winers.
Keeping track of five rifles and equivalent mags and shooters on the line has slowed my memory of what the scores were exactly but jjp, aka Jason Peterson won Sunday with a 59 (it's all in the spotter Jason)!
Hawk-1 shot well on Saturday but had serious equipment/trigger malfucntions with his Evelio built hunter rifle on Sunday, ended up shooting a borrowed rifle and still finished strong. Several fairly new shooters, largest B class I have seen in a while which is great.
We missed fellow Georgian the late Rick Steffan, who passed away earlier in the week but had many of the usual suspects, Gator, Alan McCullough, his son Michael, Ricky Sapp, Carol Rosenqvist, and the greatest spotter of all Clarence Johnson.
I'm sure results will get posted soon, I saw jjp and Gator with their cameras out!

I will post some pictures in the while. David Dyer Hawk-1 was the open winner in the standard rifle matches on Saturday. Boy, was it fun on Saturday with the slight breeze.

I believe I brought back a five gallon bucket of Georgia back with me in my truck.

Good shooting Hawk and JP. I'm sorry we missed it, I could have let you borrow my windbreak, Baby Huey.

Baby Huey would have helped block the wind all the way out to chickens at least.
It was a fun match. Man, the food was awesome. Some of the best fish I've ever ate.

The Texas tea and the Amber Bock was a great way to finish the day.
Don't be scared to go to any more matches Ham, Baby Huey is going to kick our butts soon or later anyway. Then we won't ever hear the end of it. LOL!!!

Thanks JP, and I've got my silhouette vests on order right now and then I should have enough to buy the rifle of my choice in a few months! Then I can really start making hammy sweat!!!!

Update: The executive Star Chamber met Saturday night and discharged the CGGC/CWO. By sealed and undisclosed ballot Ricky Sapp is designated next years Chief Weather Officer.
If it gets too windy, speak with Ricky.
StrayDog out.

Stray Dog, I haven't figured out who you are yet but I agree with Ricky Sapp being CWO from now on...he seems to have a way of predicting fine weather and I'm sure with his performance in the really windy time he will see that we all shoot in some very challenging conditions. Where was he several years ago when it was COLD and WET also!
