Question on which target/yard will help develop the best hold. I know distance makes the biggest challange, but that chicken does not have a lot to aim at. I 've been shooting the chicken all winter, due to the so=now I dont want to trudge through, but last weekend I moved to the pig, and my % of hits jumped big, time, doubling! Much better aiming point on the pig.
So which practice yardage will pay off with the best hold overall?
thanks

I attended one of Troy Lawton's talks awhile back and he suggested this method. Starting at the pig distance shoot at a 3 inch diameter circle. When you can get all your shots inside try a 2 inch then if you're good enough a 1 inch. Repeat this at the Turkeys and Rams. You may never acheive all shots in the 1 inch circle but it will give you a good idea of how accurate your hold is.

Lawtons hold drill is a very good tool to help you improve your hold. Don't under estimate the challenges of shooting shorter distance targets. Hold is hold whether you are aiming at a 3" circle at 100 yards or a 3/8" circle at 10 meters. It is all about controlled repeatability and training your muscle memory/hand eye coordination to have a smaller and smaller hold with a ever shrinking group size (at least thats the objective). I shoot lots of airgun inside at 10m and trying to put all those pellets in the same ragged hole is a challenge.

This is my best 10m five shot airgun group to date.

Not going to make it Hammie. A few of us were wanting to go but it is just to much with so many matches so close together. Got the Texas State match next weekend and then out Louisiana State match at the end of April and then a month later Winnie. We are sending Chief BSer Tureau as a representative from what I understand he is going to Fl. Tx Smallbore and Highpower as well.

Unfortunetly getting people to come to La. two times so close together is not proving easy and I can't blame anyone if you can only make one trip here you are going to Winnie without a doubt.

You going to be at Winnie this year Hambone?

I'll see you there. I may make GA. Winnie is iffy at best. Rumor has it there are going to be more lay-offs later this year. Also, my son may be home on leave in June for his birthday (same weekend as the match). Probably won't know until May.
