Could be a cheaper way to get the same functionality as an Anschutz biathlon rifle. I'd have to see a couple made into very accurate rifles before I dropped the cash, though.

best use for a 10-22 action i've seen yet

I'm actually working on an Izhmash 7-2 rifle project for a standard class Silhouette rifle. The Izhmash actions are slick, and the triggers are among the very best for a $400-ish rifle (2 stage and semi-adjustable)

In my opinion, the limiting factor with the Ruger conversion would still be the trigger assembly.

The reviews over on RFC of the trigger group on that rifle are pretty good so far. People are comparing it to the KIDD triggers.

I'm not really up to speed on that Ruger toggle-action conversion.

Does it use a standard Ruger trigger group?

Jetmugg, I'm curious about your 7-2 project. I have one, it shoots well and I can get the trigger and rifle to make hunter weight rules. I've been told I can't shoot it in hunter because the barrel has no taper. I've thought about getting a new barrel on it with taper, but not sure I can justify that. I would like to shoot it in both classes.
Why did you decide to make yours a standard rifle? I would like to see some pictures of yours when you finish and/or get details of what you are planning.

With the stock 7-2 barrel, it is restricted to Std. class. This is mostly a "project gun" for me. I have a 1712 FWT that is the rifle I trust fully. The 7-2 is something I can tinker with. I'll post some pics tomorrow, I'm going to be working on this project again.

I bought a Boyd's Evo uninletted stock for $20, and just started messing around with inletting for the 7-2. The inletting turned out fine, so I made an aluminum trigger guard and forend extension (the Boyd's forend wasn't quite long enough). Now I'm working on an aluminum cheekpiece which sits on top of 2 aluminum pillars drilled through the rear of the stock.

The looks are not for everyone, but it's been a fun project.

Here are a couple more pics, after the addition of a raised cheek piece (just under the C/L of bore) and a bloop tube. The rifle still needs a lot of finishing work, but it is functional. Last weekend, I shot a better-than-average score by my standards using this rifle.
