Sierra list H322 as an accuracy load with 125 and 150's and the hunting load (Best energy load?) for 170's -anyone use this powder, and results? Need to start tinkering. Would like as few loads and bullets as possible to do the job- will a 125 do C&P and 150 or 170's for T&R?

Chuck, if you want one load try 34 gr of Varget and a 150 Speer, Sierra, Hornady, etc. If you want two loads and the rams are hard to knock down then use 33 gr of Varget and a 125 to 150 gr bullet of the first three targets and a 170 gr bullet for the rams. I have also shot the 180 gr Sierra with 32 gr of Varget.
I have a lot of 110 30 cal carbine bullets and to use them up I load them with 34 gr of Varget and shoot chickens and pigs with them.

I suppose you meant H322? If so, yes, a bunch of guys shoot it and it is accurate. Use 125's for C-T and 170 for ram. Some seriously competitive shooters at national level worked up their ram load and used the same powder charge for the 125. This makes things easy for sure. Don't get too worked up over BR accuracy as these targets are plenty big.

How fast do you guys run your 170 Gr Ram loads ? Seems to me I don't need to try to get max Velocity 2100 fps. Thinking 1800 with 170's ought to do the job on Rams and be easier to shoot. This from a 24 inch Marlin

Yes H322 is what I was trying to type. 125s will do the job on Turkeys? And yes the one powder load and change a bullet is what I was hoping would work.

Sure, give it a try.

This is my current load.
130 Speer (Great BC) and 32gr of H-322, crimp cases.
I use it from Chickens to Rams and I don't need to change my sights.
Very flat and kind of hard on the chickens. I hold Foot on the first 3 animals and then dead center on the Rams.
I have not measured, but would guess it is going 2600-2700fps, the Sierra 125 are a softer bullet and don't have the great BC that the Speer's have.
No problem with the Rams so far and the poor Pigs look like they are getting hit with a sledge hammer.
Kicks a little, but not over pressure, primers look fine. I plan on taking down the load a bit for the sake of the first two animals, maybe 28 to 30 grains.
I use Federal Brass and this is out of a 26" octagon Win 94 commemorative.

Here's my loads:
C&P 30.0 grs Varget 150 Sierra
T 33.0 grs Varget 150 Sierra
R 32.0 grs Varget 170 Sierra
No sight adjustment needed.

Fellas,

Compared to some of the shoulder bashing loads listed above mine is a bit soft:

10 grains Trailboss with a 165 grain commercial Hawkesbury River projectile = hits and great knock down on all targets including the rams at 200m. I use a williams sight on my 94 Winchester and do not end up with bruised shoulders.

Chicken / Turkey and Pig / Ram are the same sight settings, so I only have two places to adjust the Williams sight to.

Why dont I see many people shooting cast bullets?

I would like to shoot cast that's about all I shoot in other disciplines, Full size CLA is new to me and my spotter/shooting partner. We shoot a lot of other offhand matches using Cast bullets. Working with New Marlins in 38/55 and 45/70 as well as M36A 24 inch 30/30 to see what works best. Couple of problems I can see with Cast, this based on past experience not anything specific to this rifle.

No doubt a CPT cast load can be worked up for the 30/30 that will do the job knock down and accuracy

Ram knock down 170 gr cast or jacketed seems to need 1900 fps, all the 30 cal gas checked bullets I have used before are moving about 1600 fps. Have had very good CBA match results with 03's and Kraigs that velocity, never tried push faster. Most of my good loads were with the Saeco 301 200 gr, too long, won't feed in the Marlin. One time tried the lever CBA class with a M 94 carbine and Lyman 170 gr gas check, result was terrible might have been the gun mold or me who knows. Have never been successful shooting cast over jacketed without a through cleaning even then it takes the bore some time to settle down and shoot cast good again. That's not going to work in Silhouette as you change banks of critters

So seems getting a 170 gr or heavier cast bullet that will feed up to velocity with ram line accuracy is the key. After we settle down the 38/55 and 45/70 loads & sight settings as well as get some benchmark performance data with jacketed in the M 36A may work on it some. Good some good advice from another shooter that uses cast 100 % and Baja was kind enough to post his load, so it can be done.

Any advice appreciated
