hi CB guys,

how do you spot hits for CB? and small bore CB? what power binos do you suggest? i have a 8x pair i hunt with is theis enough? i had a nice pair of 12x but they were illeagle for 3d shooting so i stepped down in power.

I use my 8x42 hunting binoculars that seem to work fine. It's sometimes hard to spot chicken hits, but that's because they go down so fast more than not having enough magnification.

For cowboy we found a great pair of Nikon's.. Trailblazer 10x50 with extended eye relief. The eye pieces are adjustable so you can use them with your glasses on with no problem

We use a pair of 12x50 seem to work just fine. They were about $50 at Scheels.
As stated before, the only difficult ones to see are the chickens 'cause they go down so fast.

The ones I am using are made by Canon 10X30IS with image stabilizer and everyone that has tried them liked them.
They are pretty clear not too powerful, big or heavy and are without a doubt the best I've used so far for spotting in Cowboy.

thanks, my company has the same image stabilizing canons, i will give them a go and if i like them i can probably use them every weekend as long as they come back on mondays

Guys... Don't let NRA see you discussing the image stabilization binocs... They'll ban them like the fiber optic front sights, LOL!

I was in the same boat as you - using the 8 power binoculars because that is what is legal in 3D archery (and were in my truck all the time). Last year I picked up a nice pair of Vortex 10x50's for a South Dakota deer hunt, and now use them for spotting instead. I won't go back to the 8x42's unless I forget my 10 power binos.

But in the end I doubt the added 2x of magnification matters all that much. The difference is in the quality glass in the better binoculars - so much easier on the eyes so it's naturally easier to spot hits.

The chickens are gone so fast that you can't see the hits. The rams are fairly easy since they often take a while before deciding to drop.
A good 8x binocular is better than a bad 10x.
I use my 8x56 Burris signature selects for hunting and for spotting. I have Leitz Trinovid 8x30s but can see about as well with the Burris as with the Leittz or a Zeiss 8x42.
