I've got a basic question about open sights for you guys. A freind a work has an open sight 30-30 and took it to the range the other day and was hitting high of the target. The "range" master (term used losely for this individual ) told him to move the rear sight all the way down the "slide" (for lack of a better term) and that would bring the barrel down to the target. My understanding and I'm probably wrong, hasnt been the first and wont be the last is that you move the rear sight up the "slide" and it will bring the barrel/bullet down to the target. Can a fella get a little help with how to properly adjust open sights.

Shakes, without going into a lot of detail I will tell you that you move the rear sight the way you would move a scope or the way you want the bullets to go. On the other hand the front sight you move the opposite. Hope this helps you.

Hi, new guy here but have been reading the mail for some time... A little acronym that might help remind you is "FORS". Front opposite Rear same. Applies for both windage and elevation.

When I'm teaching, I usually use that acronym and if they need more specific information, I just explain it as "move the rear site the direction you want the bullet holes to move." Of course, the front site is the opposite but people rarely move the front site and those who do are usually target shooters using nice equipment who don't need me to explain how to adjust sights.
