Hello All,

I'm new to silhouette shooting....so new in fact that I have not shot a single silhouette yet.

Got my CZ Silhouette (used) in on Wednesday. Mounted the scope that night and only had time to fire off about 30 rounds yesterday before I had to leave for my daughters soccer game. My son (12) helped me sight her in at 50 yards. I must have done a decent job of bore sighting because we where in the 6 ring on the very first shot (using an indoor 50ft bullseye target at 50 yards).

After adjustments we were touching bullet holes inside the dime sized x-ring.

The scope is a Nitrex (by Weaver) 4-16x 50mm AO. I really didn't want a 50mm.....but that was my only good choice on a deal I really could not pass up. The Nitrex is comparable to Weaver's Grand Slam scopes (made in the same plant in Japan).....or something in between Bushnell's 3200 & 4200 line. ATK is ending the Nitrex line and is going to stick with just the Weaver name. Natchez is blowing them out.....plus a rebate. Got the above for $179. It's a really nice scope for that price.

The scope is mounted on BKL 257H's. After mounting it really looks like I could have gotten away with standard height 257's?
I'll see how it goes for now (as far as cheek weld and comfort) but might pick up the regular height at some point just to see.

I still need to check on the age of this CZ.....it appears quite a bit older than I was led to believe. The trigger is VERY light, certainly under 2lbs, but so far appears to be safe. I could not tell you if it's stock or not but it breaks clean with very little effort. Our local league has no restrictions on trigger weight so I guess I'll see how it goes for now.

Welcome aboard to an addicting sport. The CZ is a good rifle and you should enjoy it for some time. There are spring kits available (YoDave and Brooks) and changing the trigger springs are easy and can get you back to a 2lb trigger relatively easy.

The one thing I noticed on your scope is it doesn't have target knobs, you may want to look into those add on ones to make it easier to change elevation settings between animals..

They are not "Target Knobs" but they do turn by hand......no screwdriver or coin needed......will that work?

Adam, welcome to the addiction. Yes the scope will work, you will eventually gravitate to target knobs, probably. CZ trggers can be worked most tend to use the Brooks or other aftermarket triggers, but there are some out there that have been worked on. Now to determine what ammo it likes best. Adam67, Just a casual observation that I saw on your set up, I noticed that your stock doesn't have that much of a comb and those 257's set alittle high, the set up that you have might work off the bench, but standing up you might find that you pull your head off the stock to see through the scope. I had the same problem on my 1712 with 257's. Just my two cents!

Thanks. Everyone was telling me I would need the 257H (high) with a 50mm objective.....however it appears I could have gotten away with the standard height 257's. I may end up ordering them.

It's not quite as radical as it looks. While I can't get a normal cheek weld I am able to get a decent chin weld. In fact the slightly more upright head position seems comfortable. I'll see how it goes.

I had the same rifle as my 1st sil rifle. Great shooting little rifles for the money hard to beat. The stock has a very low topline in relation to the bore center. I got one of these Beartooth comb pad risers for mine and it was like night and day on the cheek weld. Left it on the rifle when I sold it to a Jr. shooter. The rings should be fine unless you have no neck to speak of I find the head up position is most comfortable and doesn't get you trying to force the rifle into position using muscles. I actually used the tall offset BKLs on top of the .6" riser blocks otherwise I end up with the butt pad riding high on my shoulder like an AR-15 to get any kind of cheekweld with a heads up position that is relaxed.

Had her out on the silhouette range today (first time).

I sighted in at 75 yards and then just adjusted from there.

25 & 50 yard targets were not to hard. 75 & 100 was much trickier. I was hitting about 50% on those. I was shooting at 16x on the 75 & 100, and was playing around with anything from 6-8x at 25 yards and 8-12x at 50.

I have never shot offhand before (with a rifle).....in fact this is my first rifle (since air guns as a child).

Thursday will be my first league shoot.

Okay....first time out. I shot 34 out of 48. We have 12 silhouettes at each range.

I felt decent about the 34 but I know it could have been better. I was 8 out of 10 on the bears at 100 yards and then missed the last two. I also missed a few at 50 that I shouldn't have.

Shooting like that, he can call 'em whatever he likes...

12 silouettes at each range and 25 yards lets me know there is a range with some different animals...I have shot some various stuff, gophers, buffalo, cayotes, crows, bobcats, various ranges, different distances. The principles are the same and the reaction is the same, either it falls or it doesn't. Sounds like Adam is getting addicted just fine.

Yeah....after looking around looks like we have our own "custom setup"

48 total with chickens at 25 yards, eight Buffalo with four gophers mixed in at 50 yards, Turkeys and another two gophers at 75 and Bears at 100.

The bears tend not to go down unless you hit them high. I watched one gentleman get 5 hits with none scoring.

The high shooter for the night was 40 and he was shooting an FS CZ 452 with a fixed 4.5x scope on it.

Adam67, How big are these animals? Have you seen a set of official NRA Smallbore animals yet.
