Hey shooters,
I'm goin to the Montana State match on the 11th, and its the first time I'm driving a good distance to a match and doin an overnighter. 6 hours drivin for me, so not bad. It's my first sanctioned match, not to mention I expect it to be the most formal match I've attended. I half expect the commands to be in Spanish.
Traveling there a day early, the range will be open to competitors for sight in, and make sure I find the range so not lost on day of. Takin everything I think I may need for the rifles, ammo, cleaning rod, etc. Takin my shooting gear same as local matches.

My questions:
- Any special tips to make things easier, maybe not look too much like the FNG?
- Standard class is at 9am, then hunting class starts at 2pm. Is there a break for lunch, or should I be takin lunch with me? I do take snacks and fluids.

The commands will be in english unless they let me call it. They won't.

Bring food, there isn't anything there. They do have a feed after the matches on Sat.

You don't need to bring a "shit load" of stuff, the shooters there will be willing to let you borrow just about everything.

Do bring warm clothes, it could be cool there.

SB will be shot in the mornings and HP will be shot in the afternoon. They shoot standard rifle first and then directly into hunter rifle without a break.

Someone will be there Friday to check your guns and give you the packet with all the score cards. A good time will be had by all.

I hope I have answere your questions. The people that put the match on have travled to many big matches and know how to run a good one.

Buy the way, Don't tell Mike or Terry I gave them a complement. It will go to their heads.

Hey Jerry, I think for the State match they are shooting all .22 on Saturday and all HP on Sunday.

Do I need my own clipboard for the score cards?

Thanks Pete. I guess I should read the match thingie. I usualy skip that caus I realy don't care how they run the thing. I am getting use to hearing the range commands in English now but that will change in Oct. It will be back to Spanish as soon as I get to the AZ state match.

Mt. they will give you color coded score cards. There is a bench the full length of the range and it is covered so you may not need that clipboard. I assume you are from MT so you should know the weather could be hot or cold or somewhere between. Mid Sept, who knows. Bring warm clothes, you may need them. It has been known to rain on Missoula too.

There is about 8 or 6 mile of gravel road to get to the range. Watch for the sign at deep creek so you don't drive past it. You make a hard left turn right after you cross the bridge over the little creek.

You will have a good time there.

Jerry, yeah, I'm comin from Billings. Thanks for the heads up on directions, the map isnt the greatest. Part of the reason I'm comin friday, so I can find the place. One of the other medics here has shot there, and says it ends up in the shade alot, so it tends to be cooler, so I am planning accordingly. thanks for all the advice. -Johnny

Most everyonw will show up Friday, get their rifles checked and check zeros. Did I mention that there may be some BS sessions?

I always liked shooting, just never did any organized shooting. Been on the Ambulance in Billings last 5 years, herniated 2 discs in May, so had to find a hobby that didn't involve heavy lifting, twisting, or heavy impacts. My usual hockey, mountain biking, and golf were out, so I bought a 10/22 project gun, built that up nice, and found silhouette as a place to use it. Shot once at the monthly shoot at Rod n Gun club, and was hooked. They shoot there, open to public, 2nd sunday of every month, but not a sanctioned match. If you're in Molt it's not far, but very informal, not divided up per classes or anything. BUT, since I'm hooked now, I will be attending more matches. Had a hell of a time finding a sanctioned match in the area. I will keep my eyes on Logan, and Cody in the future. Think I'm goin to the match in Logan on Oct 9th too. Look for me at the match, would LOVE a BS session, though I may be listening more as the newbie, but that's what I want to do to learn some more. I'll be carrying one silver case, and one Olive Drab Pelican case. thanks for all the advice. -Johnny

I didn't know of any shoots around Billings, thanks. I am the short guy with a very big grey standard SB rifle. Long bloop tube and weights under the bbl.
